Position Description:
Leads the building and modernization of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), business rules, and database layers within applications. Develops innovative solutions to complex application problems using Cloud native technologies -- Snowflake and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Conducts DevOps and Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) using Maven, Jenkins, uDeploy, and Stash. Modifies existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, and upgrade interfaces to improve performance. Draws on in-depth knowledge of the business or function to provide business unit-wide solutions by developing complex, multi-faceted software applications. Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the business unit and participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve business-unit-wide solutions. Guides the planning and execution of complex technology efforts by setting direction, aligning priorities, and ensuring coordinated delivery across multiple teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy.
  • Participates in high-level, cross- functional architecture design teams.
  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.
  • Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.
  • Consults on deployment of major project deliverables.
  • Consults on the documentation of major technology application.
  • Oversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.
  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.
  • Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.
  • Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.
  • Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.
  • Identifies and plans for future resource needs.
  • Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.
  • Ensures that teams execute work according to established standards, timelines, and objectives, and escalates issues requiring senior level intervention.
  • Drives continuous improvement, operational discipline, and organizational capability building across the business unit.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) performing database development in Relational and Non-Relational Operational Datastore and Enterprise Data Lake environments.
Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) performing database development in Relational and Non-Relational Operational Datastore and Enterprise Data Lake environments.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") developing cloud-native engineering solutions and migrating on-premises data products to Cloud using AWS -- Oracle RDS, Aurora Postgres, and Snowflake; and maintaining Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for application code.
  • DE designing and developing backend applications based on product requirements using Oracle PL/SQL to retrieve, process, and inject real time data to and from online applications using RESTful API; building data warehouses and Big Data Hadoop solutions, using Oracle PL/SQL and Informatica; designing and developing Python, Perl, Unix shell, and Oracle PL/SQL scripts to bulk load data from data systems into data warehouses based on business user requirements; and tuning SQL queries for enhancing application performance.
  • DE designing and architecting Cloud-based, highly available solutions using Infrastructure as a Services (IaaS), easily scalable products, Software as a Services (SaaS), easy maintain systems, and Platform as a Services (PaaS).
  • DE acting as a technical lead for a distributed team by providing technical direction, collaborating with architecture to provide engineering solutions, and mentoring junior engineers on technologies, standards, and design principles.
