The Senior Engineering Manager, Software Development will lead a team responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software for the Affera mapping system. This role will provide technical leadership, people management, and cross-functional execution oversight to deliver safe, high-quality, and innovative software solutions that support product performance, regulatory compliance, and business objectives.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience leading software engineering teams in a regulated environment, with strong expertise in software architecture, product development, testing methodologies, and team development.
About the Affera Mapping and Ablation System
The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the heart's electrical activity, helping physicians identify abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once identified, the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals, restoring normal heart rhythm.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing software engineering team responsible for core product software.

  • Define technical direction, development priorities, and execution plans in alignment with product and business strategy.

  • Support planning and execution of release milestones, risk management, defect resolution, and continuous improvement.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and engineering excellence.

  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and retain engineering talent.

  • Champion best practices in software development, architecture, cybersecurity, testability, and documentation.

  • Contribute to product strategy through technical assessment, roadmap input, and tradeoff analysis.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with Python and C++
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience
  • OR advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with embedded software, real-time systems, imaging, mapping, or medical device platforms.
  • Familiarity with software quality processes and regulatory frameworks relevant to medical devices.

  • Preference for working with agile development methodologies.

  • Prior leadership in platform or product software organizations with multiple contributors and dependencies.

  • Experience supporting fielded products, sustaining engineering, and post-market software issues.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$175,200.00 - $262,800.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
