nCino's Automated Underwriting System team builds and maintains the integrations between Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that allow financial institutions to accurately assess loan risk and prepare files for the secondary market. As Associate Manager, you will lead a backend-heavy engineering team through integration work that is technical and precise by nature, while contributing hands-on as a senior-level engineer yourself. The team works primarily in Ruby on Rails on the backend and Vue.js on the frontend, with feature development that includes AI-powered Smart Tasks converting underwriting feedback into actionable workflow items within the application. You will collaborate cross-functionally with various teams within the organization, such as Cloud and Data/AI platform as the product continues expanding its intelligent capabilities.
The ideal candidate splits their identity evenly between people leader and engineer, spending roughly half their time managing the team and half writing code as a senior contributor. You lead with genuine investment in your team's growth, creating opportunities for others and delivering feedback that is constructive, direct, and timely even when the message is difficult. Experience in high-deployment, fast-iteration engineering environments is a meaningful plus, and candidates with strong CI/CD fluency and a background in integration-focused backend work will have a clear advantage from day one.


 

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the day-to-day execution of software engineering team and the delivery of projects, providing hands-on support as needed

  • Focus on improving team processes, collaboration, and code quality, ensuring best practices are followed to enhance maintainability, performance, and scalability

  • Support, guide, and empower the daily activities of employees, delegating the team's work assignments and outputs, establishing deadlines, and verifying accuracy of work. May assist in completion of team's work assignments

  • Provide training and professional development of team members; participate in the hiring selection and performance management of team members with senior leaders

  • Leverage AI tools and techniques to enhance software development activities, including code generation, testing, debugging, and optimization.

  • Apply AI insights to identify patterns, automate repetitive tasks, and improve overall development efficiency and product quality.

  • Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities where appropriate to strengthen product functionality and user experience.

  • Maintain awareness of emerging AI trends and best practices to inform continuous learning and innovation.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with 6+ years of relevant experience and 1+year of management experience or combination of education and experience

  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language

  • Understanding of software engineering principles, including system design, architecture, and development practices,

  • Experience in a fast-paced development environment, with a focus on improving development practices and processes to enhance team efficiency, collaboration, and code quality in a large-scale organization

  • Proven success as a coach and mentor of technical staff

  • Demonstrated dedication to quality and continuous improvement

  • Ability to motivate yourself and others, prioritize your own work, and adapt and thrive in a dynamic team environment

  • Excellent problem solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills

The base salary range for this job is:
