There are three business units within the Wolters Kluwer Financial & Compliance Services division: Wolters Kluwer Financial Services, which provides risk, compliance and audit solutions specifically designed to help financial organizations around the world manage risk, ensure compliance and improve efficiency and effectiveness; Wolters Kluwer Audit, Risk & Compliance, a provider of audit, risk and compliance software for professionals in highly regulated industries; and Wolters Kluwer Transport Services, which provides real-time marketplace and transport management services on-demand. Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn., the Financial & Compliance Services division employs 2,100 people and has offices in more than 20 countries.
Job Description
The Senior Software Engineer creates working software deliverables and provides leadership in the construction of software solutions, software requirements, research outcomes, and specifications (functional and performance). Individual ensures that best practices are followed. Individual leads others in designing and implementing technology consistent with defined standards.
To be successful in this position, the employee will need to demonstrate business focus, strong work ethic, high productivity focus on quality/craftsmanship, personal initiative, accountability, intellectual curiosity, team work, strong analytical skills, and strong communication skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Ensure that owned applications deliver business value, are completed on time, have high quality, and minimize technical debt.
• Lead design and code efforts within a project team. Clearly communicate actionable information to the project manager and to the engineering team.
• Responsible for technical and process mentoring / training of the development staff, particularly in the areas of software design and good coding practices.
• Assist in defining and implementing new development processes, tools and methodologies, particularly in the areas of SCM (software configuration management), automated unit testing, and continuous integration.
• Develop and document software designs that emphasize usefulness / usability, stability, performance and reusability.
• Participate in R&D initiatives that are focused on new product design and usage as well as applicability of new technologies and architecture.
• Build collaborative relationships with project managers and other functional team members to ensure
success of projects.
• When needed, act as a liaison to the business, assisting with decisions that require technical expertise.
• Interact across various functional roles and departments to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
• Establish and uphold firm expectations for deliverables and ensure they are self-certified prior to transitioning to the downstream consumers (QA and customers).
• Will provide occasional level-II application support.
• Occasional overnight travel as needed. Position will require travel between our St. Cloud and Minneapolis offices once a week on average.
• No formal supervisory responsibilities, but candidate is expected to demonstrate ability and willingness to mentor junior team members and to lead by example
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years' experience in N-tier design and development of .Net applications using VS 2010, C#, ASP.NET, MVC, WPF, WCF, Ajax, SQL Server 2008 / 2012, Windows / Web Services and Entity Framework.
• 5+ years' experience developing web-based solutions.
• 5+ years' experience with relational databases and SQL Server 2008 / 2012.
• 2+ years' experience in performance tuning of complex applications & software systems.
• Experience in all phases of application development.
Preferred Qualifications:
• MS SQL Server expertise
• Experience with Team Foundation Server including both source control as well as work item tracking
• Bachelor's or technical degree preferred, or if no degree, 5 years of equivalent work experience required
• To be successful in this position, you'll need to demonstrate acute business focus, strong work ethic, high productivity, a passion for quality/craftsmanship, personal initiative, accountability, intellectual curiosity, team work, and strong analytical, time management and communication skills.
• SAP or other ERP system customization and augmentation experience helpful but not required.
• Software development experience in a Waterfall and Agile environment preferred.
• Work independently. The expectation is that the employee in this position will be able to receive a statement of objectives and high level direction and be able to figure out the details of what needs to be done technically, as well as be able to clearly communicate the technical vision to his/her peers.
• Selected candidate will demonstrate the ability and willingness to mentor junior team members and to lead by example.
