Additionally, they must stay current with technology trends while focusing on team growth and performance.

Software engineers can earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with seniority, specialized skills, or in high-cost-of-living areas. Roles such as engineering managers or those with expertise in cloud computing, AI, or cybersecurity often reach or exceed this salary level, particularly with experience and relevant certifications. However, salaries vary based on location, company size, and individual skill set.

What is a Software Engineer Manager?

A Software Engineer Manager is a professional who leads a team of software engineers, overseeing the design, development, and deployment of software projects. They are responsible for managing team performance, setting goals, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. Software Engineer Managers often collaborate with other departments to align technical solutions with business objectives. Their role combines leadership, project management, and deep technical knowledge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Engineer Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Engineer Manager, you need a solid background in software development, team leadership experience, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools (like Jira), version control systems (such as Git), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is typically required, along with relevant certifications. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and mentoring abilities help you build effective teams and drive project success. These skills ensure you can lead technical initiatives, foster collaboration, and deliver high-quality software solutions in dynamic environments.

The Ford Motor Credit Company team helps put people behind the wheels of great Ford and Lincoln vehicles. By partnering with dealerships, we provide financing, personalized service and professional expertise to thousands of dealers and millions of customers in over one hundred countries around the world.

In this position...

In this role you will be a technical leader for our Informatica IDMC platform and Informatica MDM SaaS product, while also serving as a senior software engineer contributing to our initiatives using modern Java technologies.

  • This is a senior-level individual contributor position perfect for an experienced Informatica platform technical thinker who thrives on deeply technical engineering work, software and system design, and mentoring others. With your learner's mindset, you will grow and develop as an engineer, as a team member, as a human, and as a champion for Ford.

What you'll do...

  • Informatica Platform Leadership & Administration

  • Administer, design and develop solutions for our Informatica IDMC platform, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability

  • Drive implementation and ongoing evolution of our Informatica MDM SaaS solution, including data modeling as well as ingress, egress and matching strategies

  • Design and implement IDMC integration workflows using Cloud Application Integration (CAI), Cloud Data Integration (CDI), and Data Quality / Data Governance components

  • Develop technical standards and mentor others on best practices for the platform and data management processes

  • Lead platform upgrades and migrations, evaluating new features and capabilities

  • Lead, present, and facilitate discussions on IDMC capabilities, limitations, and best practices with both technical and non-technical audiences within Ford.

  • Software Engineering & Development

  • Design, develop and improve Java applications in a technical stack leveraging BDD, Spring, CQRS, and hexagonal architecture

  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices that integrate with internal and external systems and extend domain capabilities

  • Lead and guide the disaggregation of requirements into implementable work within an Agile-based work process.

  • Contribute to the shared learning of the team and broader organization.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical discipline or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • At least eight years experience in software engineering, with most of this time spent in Java or similar compiled, object-oriented language. Expertise with Spring is a must-have for this role.

  • At least five years hands-on experience with Informatica platform development and administration, including deep expertise in IDMC components including CAI, CDI, Cloud Data Quality, Cloud Data Governance, as well as the underlying X360 products and integration services.

  • At least three years experience implementing Informatica MDM solutions, specifically MDM SaaS, including proven experience with MDM data modeling of entity hierarchies, relationship modeling, data quality and match/merge rules configurations.

  • At least three years serving in a technical lead or senior engineer capacity

  • Demonstrable experience with Hexagonal Architecture (ports and adapters) and CQRS patterns.

  • Demonstrable experience in designing software solutions, including experience with Mermaid and C4 modeling.

  • Experience with behavior-driven development, including test automation using BDD Features and Scenarios.

  • Working experience with GCP, CloudBuild, Tekton, Hoppscotch, and GraphQL.

  • Experience managing work with Jira

  • Strong and clear oral and written communications skills.

Even better, you may have...

  • GCP Associate Cloud Engineer, Professional Data Engineer, or similar

  • Informatica Customer 360 SaaS Developer, MDM Developer, or similar professional-level certifications
