What are software engineer contracts?

Software engineer contracts are agreements where software engineers are hired on a temporary basis to work on specific projects or for a set period of time, rather than as permanent employees. Contractors often work for multiple clients, are paid hourly or per project, and may have more flexible schedules. These contracts outline the scope of work, compensation, deadlines, and other terms. Contract software engineers are responsible for delivering quality code and meeting the requirements set by the client or organization. This working arrangement can offer more autonomy, but also less job security and benefits compared to full-time employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Engineer Contract, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Engineer Contract, you need strong programming skills, a solid understanding of software development methodologies, and a relevant degree or proven experience in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with source control systems (e.g., Git), cloud platforms, and proficiency in languages or frameworks required by the contract are crucial, as are any certifications in areas like AWS or Agile methodologies. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and communication skills help you quickly integrate with new teams and deliver results in diverse environments. These skills ensure you can efficiently contribute to projects, meet client expectations, and maintain professional flexibility across various assignments.

It's important to proactively communicate with team members, clarify project requirements early on, and stay organized to meet tight deadlines. Additionally, maintaining a strong personal workflow and being open to feedback can help contract engineers integrate more smoothly and deliver high-quality results within limited timeframes.

EverWatch is a government solutions company providing advanced defense, intelligence, and deployed support to our country’s most critical missions.  We are a full-service government solutions company. Harnessing the most advanced technology and solutions, we strengthen defenses and control environments to preserve continuity and ensure mission success.

EverWatch employees are focused on tackling the most difficult challenges of the US Government. We offer the best salaries and benefits packages in our industry - to identify and retain the top talent in support of our critical mission objectives.

Commitment to Non-Discrimination:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to disability, status as a protected veteran or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, local, or international law.

As a software engineer, you know that good software is more than just a nice-looking interface + data. You need the right combination of clean code, APIs, analytics, and infrastructure to develop a user-focused solution. We’re looking for a software engineer like you to lead a team as they develop efficient and effective software, from vision to production-ready system, in an exciting, agile environment.

As a seasoned software engineer at EverWatch, you’ll use the latest architectural approaches and open-source frameworks and tools to deliver complete end-to-end solutions to your clients. Using your software engineering expertise, you’ll analyze the environment to ensure that your team’s solutions consider the current architecture and operating environment, as well as future functionality and enhancements. You’ll share your skills as your team utilizes new tools and techniques while helping to identify and implement system improvements.

Work with us as we develop systems to create change for the better.

You Have:

  • Experience developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements

  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, Python, and front-end frameworks such as React

  • Experience with MongoDB, JSON, and XML
  • Experience with microservices architecture, Web Services / REST, and Spring framework
  • Experience with cloud and containerization using Amazon Web Services (AWS), Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience with data processing and analysis using Apache Flink, Jupyter Notebook, AI/ML tools and frameworks

  • Experience with monitoring and observability with Prometheus, Grafana

  • Experience with development practices with Git, Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with UI/UX design and development expertise

  • Experience with Linux environments and SIGINT

  • Experience utilizing software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.

  • TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • Bachelor's degree and 14+ years of experience as a software engineer, or High school diploma and 18+ years of experience as a software engineer

Nice to Have:

  • Ability to provide specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components.

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.

Compensation at EverWatch is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $88.95 to $100.97 per hour. The estimate displayed represents the typical compensation range for this position and is just one component of EverWatch’s total compensation package for employees.
