The Senior Software Developer provides advanced software engineering expertise supporting the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) Enhanced Mission Integration (AEMI) program. This position is responsible for the architecture, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment of mission-critical software applications supporting command and control (C2), situational awareness, tactical communications, mission planning, and decision-support capabilities across airborne, ground, and enterprise environments. The Senior Software Developer delivers secure, scalable, and resilient software solutions while supporting rapid capability development and modernization initiatives for Special Operations Forces.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, integrate, deploy, maintain, and enhance mission-critical software applications supporting AFSOC Enhanced Mission Integration (AEMI) operational requirements.
  • Develop scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable software solutions utilizing object-oriented programming techniques, modern software engineering methodologies, and secure coding practices.
  • Analyze operational requirements, user stories, and mission needs to design and implement effective software solutions.
  • Design and develop intuitive user interfaces, backend services, middleware, application programming interfaces (APIs), and supporting application components.
  • Develop software solutions operating within Microsoft Windows, Linux, Android, cloud, hybrid-cloud, and tactical edge computing environments.
  • Produce efficient, well-documented, maintainable source code in accordance with established coding standards and software development best practices.
  • Integrate software applications with Programs of Record (PoRs), tactical communications systems, tactical data links, mission systems, enterprise architectures, and external interfaces.
  • Participate in Agile software development processes including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, peer code reviews, demonstrations, release planning, and retrospectives.
  • Support Developmental Test (DT), Operational Test (OT), and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) events through software integration, defect resolution, testing support, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Participate in software architecture reviews, engineering design sessions, technical evaluations, and technology selection activities.
  • Research, prototype, evaluate, and integrate Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS), Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS), and emerging technologies to enhance mission capabilities.
  • Support software modernization initiatives, rapid capability development efforts, and continuous technology improvements.
  • Develop and maintain software documentation including software design descriptions, interface control documents, release notes, installation guides, and configuration management records.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, software developers, cybersecurity engineers, test personnel, and government stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of mission capabilities.
  • Support software demonstrations, fielding activities, operational exercises, and mission deployments as required.
  • Ensure compliance with software quality assurance, cybersecurity, secure development lifecycle (SDLC), and configuration management requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience supporting enterprise, defense, or other mission-critical systems.
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software using one or more of the following programming languages:
    • Java
    • C#
    • C/C++
    • Python
    • JavaScript/TypeScript
    • Kotlin
  • Experience utilizing Agile software development methodologies and software lifecycle management processes.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting applications utilizing relational and non-relational database technologies.
  • Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs, web services, and distributed software architectures.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, and secure software development principles.
  • Experience using source code repositories, version control systems, automated build processes, and software development tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required customer security clearances.
  • Experience supporting Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), C4ISR, or airborne mission systems.
  • Experience developing Android-based mission applications and software supporting tactical edge computing environments.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud-native solutions utilizing Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized application development technologies.
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps pipelines, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automated software deployment.
  • Knowledge of tactical data links, military communications systems, command and control applications, and mission planning software.
  • Industry certifications such as:
    • CompTIA Security+
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
    • Microsoft Azure certifications
    • Certified Scrum Developer (CSD)
    • Comparable industry-recognized certifications
  • Experience developing Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), decision-support, or advanced data analytics applications.
