You hire and train new staff, manage and evaluate existing developers, provide guidance on the design and implementation of new software applications, and ensure that projects stay on schedule and within budget. You collaborate with upper-level management and your developers to make sure that new and existing software applications meet business objectives.

What does a software development manager do?

A Software Development Manager oversees teams of software engineers to ensure successful planning, development, and delivery of software projects. They coordinate project timelines, allocate resources, and facilitate communication between team members and stakeholders. To thrive as a Software Development Manager, you need a solid background in software engineering, leadership experience, and usually a degree in computer science or a related field. Job description

Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is storage for the Internet. Through the use of pioneering techniques in distributed computing, developers are able to durably store their data on Amazon's proven computing infrastructure to achieve virtually limitless storage capacity at minimal cost. Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web.

It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. The service aims to maximize benefits of scale and to pass those benefits on to developers.
We are seeking a talented Software Development Manager to join our S3 organization to build and support a new storage paradigm for AWS. You will contribute towards our rapidly increasing scale as we develop new services and integrate with other S3 and AWS teams

To meet and exceed our customers' expectations, we are constantly working on software innovation, process automation, and improving cloud storage infrastructure. We seek smart, passionate people to help us deliver this industry leading technology.
Our team is clearly passionate about the incredible opportunity that Amazon S3 presents and about distributed systems in general. You will have the opportunity to deliver high quality technology products/services in a hyper-growth environment delivering AWS and S-Team level goals

You will be able to utilize your experience in building, managing, and mentoring engineering teams, while building, operating or using web-based services.
We are an organization focused on designing, building and supporting critical S3 storage software services and infrastructure that allows S3 to meet internal and external customer growth. Our team works to focus on current and future operational health while iterating quickly in an exciting and hugely impactful space, giving the opportunity to work with experienced Amazonians across AWS. Our leaders are focused on providing a supportive, inclusive environment with excellent opportunities for growth.
Key job responsibilities
Leading and owning a flexible web service requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, and practical experience leading large-scale distributed systems

You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly not only about building good software but about making that software achieve its goals in operational reality. Come join us and help solve a challenging set of problems in a space packed full of opportunities.
A day in the life
A Software Development Manager in this role is responsible for leading the architectural vision, upholding best practices and quality standards, hiring and developing talent, and establishing a strong customer-focused vision for the team. You will work daily with Senior and Principal Engineers, Senior leadership across S3 and our partners in other AWS organizations to prioritize the right solutions for the long-term success of S3 and AWS storage health

You will mentor and coach engineers, help develop and deliver multi-year roadmaps focused on the technical and customer solutions necessary to support our ongoing customer growth and platform diversity.
