Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) - AI-Enabled Quality Engineering
Hybrid - Southlake, TX or Austin, TX
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to drive quality engineering and test automation across modern enterprise platforms. This role partners closely with product owners, developers, architects, and operations teams to improve software quality, release confidence, and engineering productivity through automation, cloud-native testing, and AI-assisted SDLC practices.
Key Responsibilities
  • Define and execute test strategies, automation coverage, and release validation plans based on business and technical requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks across UI, API, integration, end-to-end, regression, performance, and deployment testing.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve release quality, speed, and reliability.
  • Validate distributed, cloud-native, and event-driven systems, including data integrity, service contracts, resiliency, observability, and recovery scenarios.
  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist, Cursor, etc.) to enhance test design, automation development, defect analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Apply prompt engineering, reusable instructions, and AI-augmented workflows to improve quality engineering outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, automation strategies, validation evidence, defect analysis, and release readiness documentation.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed teams to drive automation-first, risk-based quality practices across the SDLC.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of experience in software testing, test automation, software development, or quality engineering.
  • Strong experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks and test suites.
  • Hands-on expertise with API, UI, integration, end-to-end, regression, and release validation testing.
  • Experience testing cloud-native and distributed applications on platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, or PCF.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases and data validation techniques.
  • Experience with CI/CD, source control, and Agile delivery tools (GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jira, Rally, Confluence).
  • Experience with messaging and event-driven technologies such as Kafka, IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, or cloud pub/sub services.
  • Knowledge of BDD, TDD, ATDD, shift-left testing, quality gates, and modern quality engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated experience using Generative AI tools throughout the SDLC, including test generation, automation development, code reviews, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Understanding of prompt engineering, responsible AI practices, and AI-assisted software delivery.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of broker-dealer operations; financial services experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an SDET in Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or Scaled Agile environments.
  • Experience with performance, resiliency, observability, chaos, and production-readiness testing.
  • Financial services, brokerage, banking, wealth management, or capital markets experience.
  • Experience defining automation strategies, framework standards, quality metrics, and release readiness criteria.
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and agentic workflows.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and driving adoption of test automation and AI-assisted SDLC practices.
