Job description

Position Overview
The Asset & Configuration Mgmt Lead directs lifecycle management of hardware and software assets so inventories, configurations, and licenses remain accurate and reliable across the enterprise. This role establishes policies and standards for asset tracking, configuration records, and integrations with discovery tools and IT service-management platforms to support cost-effective, compliant services.
The leader partners with procurement, finance, and security teams to align asset decisions with budgeting, compliance, and risk-management objectives. As an IT Deployment Manager-aligned role, the position also manages a team responsible for purchasing, imaging, deploying, tracking, and retiring equipment, driving continuous improvement in how assets and configuration items are onboarded, monitored, and decommissioned.
Key Responsibilities
  • Govern policies and standards for IT asset and configuration management, covering how hardware, software, and cloud assets are recorded, maintained, and controlled throughout their lifecycle.
  • Design and oversee processes to capture, reconcile, and validate asset and configuration data using inventories, discovery tools, and CMDB capabilities, ensuring data quality that supports operations and audits.
  • Coordinate closely with procurement and finance to support purchasing, renewals, and cost optimization using accurate asset utilization and lifecycle data.
  • Align asset and configuration practices with licensing, security, and regulatory compliance requirements, including procedures for disposal and data sanitization.
  • Leverage ITAM and ITSM tooling to manage inventories, track software entitlements, and link configuration items to incidents, problems, and changes for better impact analysis and traceability.
  • Lead a team responsible for purchasing, imaging, shipping, receiving, tracking, and deploying IT equipment, ensuring tickets are prioritized and resolved in accordance with service-level commitments.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics and quality checks for asset and configuration processes, identifying problem areas and implementing improvements that enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with hardware, software, and product vendors, coordinating supply-chain services and ensuring timely, accurate fulfillment of equipment needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in information technology, including at least 2-5 years managing IT staff in asset management, deployment, or related operations roles.
  • Proven experience with IT asset management principles and tools (for example, ServiceNow, SCCM, or similar platforms) used to track hardware, software, and configuration items.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams that handle purchasing, imaging, deployment, reclamation, and inventory control for IT equipment in a multi-site or enterprise environment.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance customer needs, operational efficiency, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust investigation and to work in a U.S.-only federal IT context, with U.S. citizenship as specified.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-25% to support stakeholder engagement, deployments, and operational oversight.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building or remediating a configuration management database (CMDB) and integrating it with discovery, service-desk, and change-management tools.
  • Certification such as CITAM, ITIL, or an equivalent asset/configuration-management credential demonstrating formal knowledge of best practices.
  • Background leading deployment or lifecycle management functions similar to the PLAID team, including responsibility for imaging platforms, deployment automation, and quality assurance on tickets.
  • Familiarity with vendor management, supply-chain coordination, and long-term capacity planning for end-user IT hardware.
