Job Description SummaryUnder the supervision and guidance of a head coach, the graduate assistant (GA) coach aids in all phases of coaching and mentorship of the Division II Softball program including student-athlete recruitment, game preparation, player evaluation, academic coordination and practice and game day coaching.Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

  • Assists head coach in teaching team members the individual skills and techniques associated with the sport.

  • Assists head coach in implementing game tactics and strategy.

  • Guides team members on proper nutrition needed for optimal performance at the collegiate level.

  • Guides team members through strength and conditioning training.

  • Mentors team members on proper time management strategies to balance academic and athletic team demands.

  • Mentors team captain on leadership.

  • To instruct, monitor, counsel and assist student athletes to make sure that they meet satisfactory progress and eligibility rules.

  • Provides appropriate leadership, direction, and supervision relevant to the academic progress and personal development of student-athletes within the program

  • Create a positive and productive environment for the student-athletes.

  • Assists with scheduling opponents with a proportional amount of home and away, conference and non-conference and regional games.

  • Assists with monitoring academic success for student athletes

  • To be knowledgeable and follow all University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Adherence to NCAA Division II, SSC, and Saint Leo University rules and regulations, supporting the philosophy, goals, and mission of the University and its intercollegiate athletics program as well as adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

  • Perform other coaching related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of coaching soccer tactics and techniques

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university

  • NCAA rules and compliance

Skills:

  • Leadership skills

  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills to deal with recruits and their parents

  • Valid Driver's License

Abilities:

  • Ability to motivate student-athletes

  • Ability to effectively work with collegiate student-athletes

  • Ability to recruit student athletes

  • Demonstrated ability to use computer programs

  • Ability to demonstrate proper soccer techniques, set-up and move equipment needed for practice and games
