Description
General Description:
Position is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction. Responsibilities may include supervising teams at varsity, junior varsity, and middle school levels.
Essential Duties:
(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
  • Organize and plan practices, communicate practice times to parents.
  • Communicate expectations to parents and players.
  • Prepare practices plans (in advance of practice) including which coach is in charge of a skill/station, equipment required, rough estimate of length of drill/stations. Share plans with assistant coaches prior to practice.
  • Ensure there are always two coaches at the field.
  • Attend all practices and games to the best of your ability.
  • Arrange for practices/game coverage if you are unable to attend.
  • Start and end practices on time. You and other designated coach are always the last to leave the field.
  • Adhere to school board requirements and recommendations.
  • Attend all coaches' meetings.
  • Charged with player selection.
  • Supervision of team during all activities.
  • Purchase equipment, maintain inventory of equipment.
  • Collaborate with booster organization and fund raising activities.

Qualifications: KSA's, Education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge and advanced strategies of applicable sport. Knowledge of VHSL rules. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to mentor and develop players in a positive way. Desire to teach and improve skill development. Must pass criminal record check.
Education and Experience:
Required: Previous experience as a player and/or coaching at any level.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Requires moderate physical activity. Requires standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Work is regularly performed outside. Potential for exposure to; adverse weather conditions, exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases, possible interactions with disruptive and/or unruly individuals. Work may involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noise. Involves minimum exposure to physical risk while operating field maintenance equipment.
