Position Overview
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is seeking a detail-oriented, creative, and proactive intern to support the Marketing Communications department in assisting with social media content creation and channel management. This internship offers hands-on experience in digital asset management, content strategy, and visual storytelling while contributing to the visibility of a mission-driven organization supporting New Yorkers in need.
Throughout the internship, the candidate will play an active role in supporting several high-impact organizational initiatives, including our Developmental Disabilities Championships & Family Fun Day, Giving Tuesday campaign, Holiday Gift Project, and end-of-year fundraising campaign-gaining valuable experience in event-driven storytelling and nonprofit fundraising communications.
Hybrid Schedule: Onsite at our central office (Tuesdays/Thursdays preferred), offsite at various locations, remote work.
Office location: 463 7th Ave 17th Floor | New York, NY 10018
Hours: 20hrs/wk
Duration: September 21- December 11 (12 wks)
This internship provides a behind-the-scenes and hands-on look at how social content fuels nonprofit storytelling. It's well-suited for someone who enjoys structure, creativity, and supporting impactful communications work from the ground up.
  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support key campaigns and events- Develop and publish content tied to major initiatives, including the Developmental Disabilities Championships & Family Fun Day, Giving Tuesday, Holiday Gift Project, and year-end fundraising campaign.
  • Draft and schedule social media content- Support posting across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Bluesky, and TikTok.
  • Monitor engagement- Track comments, messages, and interactions.
  • Research content ideas- Identify trends, awareness months, and campaign-aligned opportunities.
  • Maintain the content calendar- Track deadlines, campaign timelines, and upcoming posts.
  • Capture photos and short-form video- Visit S:US program sites across NYC to gather visual content (travel required)
  • Collect stories and quotes- Document lived experiences respectfully and in alignment with consent guidelines.
  • Assist with analytics- Support monthly performance summaries.

Deliverables
  • Draft social media posts (copy + suggested visuals).
  • Create a collection of photo/video assets from events or site visits.
  • Create a curated set of story-based content elements (quotes, short narratives, or interview notes) gathered from program participants, staff, or volunteers with appropriate permissions.
  • Develop campaign support materials tied to projects (e.g., event coverage, social posts, videos, impact storytelling).
  • Provide monthly engagement and performance summaries of social media strategy.

Qualifications
  1. REQUIREMENTS:
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, library science, or related program.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Experience with digital asset management, social media platforms, and emerging digital trends.
• Strong writing skills and an understanding of tone, voice, and visual storytelling.
• Experience with basic photo/video capture and editing (please provide a link to your photo/video portfolio in your application).
