Job description

SUMMARY

The Production Team Lead is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing daily production operations within our Corporate Commissary. This role ensures Buff City Soap products are made safely, efficiently, and to the quality standards our customers expect.

Working alongside the team, you'll guide Production Technicians, solve problems in real time, and help maintain the consistency and craftsmanship behind every product we make. You'll partner closely with Operations, Fulfillment, and Procurement to meet production goals, support business growth, and keep products flowing to our customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily Production Oversight
    • Plan and assign daily batch runs for soaps, detergents, bath bombs, steamers, lotions, oils, butters, and more.
    • Ensure all recipes, measurements, temperatures, mixing sequences, and curing/drying times are followed precisely.
    • Oversee the setup, operation, and cleaning of production equipment.
  • Quality Control & Batch Integrity
    • Conduct QC checks throughout production for texture, scent, weight, color, appearance, and performance.
    • Review batch logs and verify ingredient accuracy, yields, and deviations.
    • Maintain consistency across all products to reflect brand standards and customer expectations.
  • Team Leadership & Training
    • Train Production Technicians on SOPs, equipment use, safety, batching processes, and quality expectations.
    • Provide coaching, guidance, and in-process problem-solving.
    • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and cross-training for role flexibility.
    • Build a strong culture around cleanliness, safety, craftsmanship, and efficiency.
  • Inventory & Ingredient Management
    • Monitor raw material levels and communicate shortages to Procurement or Operations.
    • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients and packaging materials.
    • Coordinate with Fulfillment to stage finished goods for packing and shipping.
  • Efficiency, Scaling & Seasonal Planning
    • Meet or exceed production volume targets while minimizing waste.
    • Support scaling efforts during major retail surges (e.g., holidays, promotions).
    • Identify process improvements that enhance safety, consistency, or speed.
  • Safety & Facility Standards
    • Uphold sanitation standards aligned with GMP-like practices.
    • Ensure proper handling of heated materials, essential oils, and equipment.
    • Maintain organized, clean, compliant production zones.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years in production, manufacturing, cosmetics, food, or similar hands-on work.
  • Strong understanding of batching, measurement, and recipe execution.
  • Leadership, team lead, or shift lead experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and maintain quality.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs and perform repetitive motion tasks.
  • Experience in handcrafted soap, bath, cosmetic, or natural products (preferred).
  • Knowledge of GMP principles, safety compliance, or batch documentation (preferred).
  • Familiarity with scaling or small-batch manufacturing equipment (preferred).
