Job description

Established in 1919 and traded on the NYSE, Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of premium automotive replacement parts utilized in the maintenance, repair, and service of vehicles in the automotive aftermarket. Additionally, SMP provides customized solutions for vehicle control and thermal management products in diversified end markets represented by its Engineered Solutions segment.
Globally, SMP employs over 6,000 employees across nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution, and engineering facilities and offices located in North America, Europe and Asia. SMP sells its products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.
Overall Scope
Perform all tasks of an employee of the Quality Department that fall within their responsibilities, in accordance with the Quality Manual Handbook and the Procedural Instructions.
Hours: 1st Shift
Primary work hours are between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Overtime, as needed
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with quality measurements in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of measurement concepts and ability to interpret engineering drawings per ASME and ISO standards. GD&T experience is desirable
  • Demonstrated proficiency in measurement tools such as CMM, Vision Systems, Form Gages, and standard high-precision measurement tools
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational skills with regard to data collection and basic analysis

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Maintain measurement equipment in the Measurement Laboratory and ensure it can meet needs
  • Check conformity of environmental conditions in the Measurement Laboratory
  • Make decisions concerning the feasibility of measurements
  • Participate in analyzing drawings in relationship to measurement methods and needs
  • Make sure required measurements are consistent with end goals
  • Help create workload schedule for Measurement Laboratory
  • Train and mentor Quality Technicians in metrology processes and best practices
  • Train Manufacturing Operators and Technicians on metrology processes and best practices
  • Decide on conformity of measured dimensions and draw up summaries of the results
  • Perform Product/Process audits and report out quantitative results
  • Assist and proxy with calibration technician
  • Other tasks assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.

Ergonomic Focus
  • Walking to and around the production floor, sitting at desk.
  • Handling and lifting of various parts on the production floor up to 30lbs.
  • Working in lab using various measurement machines and handling parts for measurement and inspection.
  • Typing on a computer, reviewing monitor while sitting in chair at desk.
  • Using telephone
