Job Overview:

Employee will be self-motivated, and under the direction of Maintenance Manager to safely operate and maintain (mechanically and electrically) equipment in all departments to produce quality product right the first time.  The employee should be the initiator of activities to ensure our customers are getting high quality products in an efficient manner and should facilitate use of the team approach to seek Continuous Improvement and implement ideas. This position requires the individual to be familiar with all equipment to the point that they can adjust, and repair as needed.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Ensure safe work environment for self and others by complying with all safety rules, requirements, and programs, as well as making suggestions to improve safety of the facility and personnel.
  • Support plant Quality, high performance culture and continuous improvement programs through active participation in QRMP, Quality Management Systems and plant productivity programs
  • Support General Plant Electrical, Maintenance, and Preventative Maintenance needs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment, maintain, and improve electrical control systems, and complete work orders.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Maintenance/Production Leadership, any corrective electrical/mechanical maintenance required on assigned equipment to ensure optimum line efficiency and product quality.
  • Utilizing Production Maintenance Windows; perform preventive maintenance inspections on all focus line equipment as assigned by the E Team Coordinator along with Production Coordinators to prevent and/or correct mechanical and electrical breakdowns.
  • Develop and implement improvements using the Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) process to prevent reoccurring equipment failures.
  • Cross train on all lines in the Packaging department along with Processing and Facility equipment.
  • Lead in establishing predictive electrical maintenance initiatives for focused lines in the department. 
  • Lead in enhancement of existing equipment to improve line effectiveness.
  • Lead efforts to develop / enhance PM's & troubleshooting guides as assigned by Manager/Coordinator for focused department.
  • Utilize the Maintenance system to document activities and to enter time daily. Ensures documentation is accurately completed using Quality Management System guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with Engineering & Maintenance, Supervisors, and Line Operators on all shifts.
  • Recommend and implement continuous improvement on equipment and system design through use of the team concept. Support project planning and execution. 
  • Communicate with other shifts to ensure coordination of all maintenance efforts on assigned equipment and effectively operate as part of a team.
  • Conduct training for other associates in area of responsibility.
  • Manage spare parts and standby equipment for assigned equipment.
  • Conform to Planters' policies and procedures including, but not limited to:  Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Lock Out/Tag Out, HACCP check points, Quality Standards, Fall Protection, Hot Work, OSHA Regulations, and all others
  • Work with vendors via phone and onsite as necessary.
  • Perform area housekeeping duties as necessary.
  • Management reserves the right, as it deems necessary to assign jobs on a temporary basis in any manner that supports efficient plant operations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years industrial electronics training and two years industrial controls experience or four years of industrial controls experience.
  • Person must be able to perform and train self/others on basic electrical and mechanical skills, mechanical repairs and overhauls, maintenance systems, computer skills, new technologies in preventive/predictive maintenance, problem solving/troubleshooting, etc. where skills are not at the required level.
  • Person must be able to program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC's, Panelviews, Servos and related control networks.
  • Person must be able to maintain needed software on laptops used for troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate successful application of problem-solving techniques, effective communication and planning.
  • Must obtain Powered Industrial Truck licensed and follow all safety rules and procedures
  • Able to walk, stand, and sit for the duration of shift
  • Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, sorting, and reaching to both ground level and overhead
  • Wear all Required Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, to perform job tasks
  • Ascend/Descend stairs and ladders throughout shift
  • Lift up to up to 50 pounds independently, and heavier weights with assistance
  • Able to give and understand instructions and hold conversations in manufacturing environment, as well as an office or classroom setting
  • Communicate with co-workers face to face, radio, email, and phone.
  • Must possess manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment, disassemble and reassemble equipment, operate a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Vision adequate to manipulate equipment controls, complete paperwork, utilize computers, and have depth perception.
