Job description

SmartCOMM Engineer

Job Summary
We are hiring aSmartCOMMEngineer to join the Applications team, responsible for designing, building, testing, and maintainingSmartCOMMtemplates, data mappings, and output configurations that generate policy, billing, and correspondence documents for insurance and business operations. The ideal candidate has hands-onSmartCOMMDesigner experience and a strong background in enterprise document composition, with prior experience on legacy CCM platforms considered a strong asset.
Job Duties

  • Design, build, and unit-test SmartCOMM templates, content blocks, and business rules using SmartCOMM Designer.

  • Build, remediate, and enhance SmartCOMM templates and business rules, including migrating logic from legacy composition platforms as needed.

  • Build and validate data mappings (XML/JSON) between source systems (policy administration, billing, claims) and SmartCOMM templates.

  • Configure and test multi-channel output (print, PDF, email, portal) ensuring consistent rendering and compliance with brand/regulatory standards.

  • Partner with QA and business analysts to define test cases, execute SIT/UAT cycles, and resolve defects.

  • Troubleshoot production issues related to document generation, formatting, fonts, and data population.

  • Document technical designs, mapping specifications, and unit test evidence per program standards.

  • Collaborate with the Guidewire composition/orchestration teams where document triggers integrate with policy workflows.

  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement) and provide effort estimates.

  • Support release activities including migration planning, deployment validation, and post-release monitoring.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with SmartCOMM (Smart Communications) Designer - including experience under its prior product name, Thunderhead - or equivalent CCM platform, with strong willingness/ability to ramp quickly on SmartCOMM.

  • Solid understanding of document composition concepts: templates, content library, business rules, data mapping, and multi-channel output.

  • Experience working in an insurance, banking, or other regulated industry producing customer-facing correspondence (policy documents, statements, notices) preferred.

  • Strong analytical and debugging skills; comfortable tracing data issues from source system through to rendered output.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work directly with business stakeholders on requirements.

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
