Job description

Small Engine Mechanic

Job Summary:
General Rental Center of Coral Springs is seeking a dependable, experienced Small Engine Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of rental equipment. This position is responsible for keeping equipment in safe, reliable working condition so our customers receive clean, properly functioning machines every time. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, organized, and able to troubleshoot efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment. We are a family-owned business that has been operating in Coral Springs for more than 40 years. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, fuel, and hydraulic issues on rental equipment
  • Service and repair equipment including pressure washers, generators, lawn mowers, stump grinders, concrete saws, plate compactors, pumps, tillers, and other small contractor equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacement, spark plugs, belt replacement, carburetor cleaning, and tune-ups
  • Troubleshoot engine starting, running, and power performance issues on both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines
  • Inspect returned rental equipment for damage, wear, or safety concerns
  • Clean, test, and prepare equipment for the next rental
  • Order and track replacement parts and maintain inventory of commonly used service items
  • Maintain accurate repair records and service documentation
  • Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer and safety standards
  • Keep shop clean, organized, and compliant with safety procedures
  • Assist counter staff with technical questions and customer equipment operation when needed

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in small engine repair, equipment maintenance, or mechanical repair required
  • Strong working knowledge of gas-powered equipment and small engines
  • Experience with Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, Subaru, or similar engines preferred
  • Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and parts diagrams
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in a shop environment
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
