SkillBridge Opportunity: Commercial Construction Installer Location: Farmington, NY Duration: 16 weeks Training Model: On-the-Job Training (OJT) with hands-on mentorship and classroom-style safety instruction About Weswood (an AAC Construction Company) Weswood Specialties, part of the AAC Construction family of companies, specializes in the installation of commercial specialty products for construction projects across a wide range of industries. Weswood partners with contractors, developers, and facility managers to deliver high-quality installations including lockers, partitions, signage systems, and other specialty building components. The company is committed to safety, craftsmanship, and professional development, making it an ideal training environment for transitioning service members seeking careers in the construction and skilled trades industries.

Program Overview The Commercial Installer SkillBridge Internship with Weswood Specialties provides transitioning service members with hands-on training in the installation of specialty commercial construction products across a variety of job sites. Participants will learn industry-standard installation techniques, job-site safety practices, project coordination processes, and customer service expectations within the commercial construction sector. During this internship, participants will work alongside experienced installation professionals and project managers to gain practical field experience while developing technical and professional skills applicable to careers in construction trades, field operations, and specialty product installation.

Successful trainees may be considered for full-time employment as Installers with Weswood Specialties upon completion of the program. Training Environment SkillBridge participants will train in real-world commercial construction environments, working alongside experienced installers, field supervisors, and project management professionals. This immersive experience includes hands-on installation work, job-site safety practices, and coordination with construction teams-providing a strong foundation for careers in construction trades, field operations, and specialty product installation.

Key Training Areas Participants will receive structured training and mentorship in: Commercial construction site operations and workflow Reading and interpreting basic project drawings and installation instructions Specialty product installation techniques Job-site safety practices and OSHA-aligned compliance Project coordination between field teams and project managers Professional communication with contractors, supervisors, and customers Time management and productivity on active construction sites Quality assurance and customer satisfaction practices Hands-On Training Activities Under the supervision of experienced installers and field leadership, SkillBridge participants will gain practical experience in the following areas: Installation Skills Development Learn to install specialty commercial products including: Lockers Toilet partitions and accessories Signage systems Cubicle track and privacy curtains Apartment-style mailbox units Other related specialty construction products Practice proper installation techniques using industry tools and materials Assist with product layout, measurement, and secure mounting procedures Develop proficiency in maintaining installation quality standards Project Preparation & Coordination Learn how field installation integrates with overall project management by: Review project scopes, drawings, and specifications with supervisors Learn how project timelines and job-site schedules are coordinated Assist with preparation and staging of materials and tools for installations Observe and participate in communication between field teams and project managers Job-Site Safety Training Will develop strong safety awareness and compliance practices through: Learn and follow company safety policies and job-site safety procedures Observe proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) Identify potential hazards on construction sites and practice safe work behaviors Collaborate with the internal safety team when required Customer Interaction & Professional Conduct Will build professional communication skills by: Observe and practice professional communication with customers and site supervisors Support efforts to maintain strong working relationships with contractors and project partners Learn the importance of responsiveness, professionalism, and quality workmanship in maintaining client satisfaction Ideal Candidate This program is suited for transitioning service members with experience or interest in construction, engineering, safety, logistics, or field operations. Preferred Skills & Attributes: Military occupational specialties involving construction, engineering, or maintenance Mechanical aptitude or experience using hand tools Interest in construction trades or skilled labor careers Ability to follow instructions and work within structured procedures Prior construction related experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided during the program.

Career Pathways Successful completion of this SkillBridge program may lead to full-time employment as an Installer, Lead Installer, or similar roles within Weswood Specialties or AAC Contracting. Salary Range (upon conversion): $20/hr. - $30/hr.
