Chemours is seeking an Automation and Process Control Engineer to join our New Johnsonville Process Control team! This position will report directly to the Process Control Leader at our New Johnsonville, TN location.

Relocation assistance is available for this role.

This is an on-site position that requires residence within reasonable commuting distance of the site in New Johnsonville, TN as the selected candidate must be able to report to the site daily during the scheduled work hours.

This position provides technical leadership and support for the operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the site's automation and process control infrastructure. Champion and implement improvements in systems capabilities that will increase the ability to meet customer needs and improve business competitiveness. Work closely with the Line Leadership, R&D and Manufacturing Resources, operators and mechanics to understand the business, site and user needs and priorities. Provide instrumentation and process control assistance for the manufacturing areas in various technologies ranging from Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Process Data Historians, and other interfaces with various IT technologies and systems. Identify, develop the scope, and lead minor and medium capital improvement automation projects. This position provides guidance for the management of the DCS system, Safety Interlock System (SIS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), hardware, networks, configuration, graphics, documentation, simulator, backups, procedures, and training to enable stable efficient control of the process including the following responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Designs and commission control systems by configuring & developing DCS & PLC software.

  • Automates and manages existing automation of process functions.

  • Develops DCS graphics that enable efficient control room operator response and knowledge of the process operation.

  • Provides control systems input into project development and design schedules.

  • Ensures that the DCS and SIS software management is adequate and applied to achieve the area's goals, verify control configuration changes.

  • Provides programming support and commission new instrumentation, basic administration of DCS and PLC systems including monitoring and upkeep of applications.

  • Performs and coordinates the DCS and SIS system monitoring, system file backups, spare parts inventory, data collection, and analysis.

  • Acts as a resource for operations and maintenance on procedures, training and standards.

  • Serves as a contact for DCS and SIS related systems, historians, simulators and networks.

  • Coaches teams and individuals on DCS and SIS related tasks and activities.

  • Participates in and leads DCS and SIS related reviews and projects as required.

  • Conducts and documents or participates in investigations of DCS and SIS incidents and ensures follow-up actions are completed to prevent recurrences.

  • Performs job in way that supports site vision of becoming an empowered organization.

  • Assists in developing and achieving control system goals and ensures tasks are completed.

  • Be part of a team that provides support, as needed, to control systems across the site for 24 hours per day/7 days a week operations.

The following is requiredfor this role:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related Engineering field.

  • 10+ years of experience designing and implementing process control strategies aligned with industry best practices, including 2+ years of handson experience configuring, supporting, and maintaining DCS and/or PLC systems.

  • 1+ years of experience working in a Chemical/Industrial Manufacturing and/or related engineering environment.

  • Ability and willingness to relocate to be within a reasonable commuting distance of the New Johnsonville, TN site, and report onsite regularly according to the work schedule.

The following is preferredfor this role:

  • Experience with support of a safety system.

  • Experience with Honeywell DCS systems preferred.

  • Experience designing and implementing process control strategies following standard and industry best practices.

  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Experience leading control system projects using site management of change (MOC) processes.

  • Process Safety Management (High Hazard Process/Low Hazard Operation) experience.

  • Knowledgeable with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layer Of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Safety Interlock System (SIS), or Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
