SILverstone Engineering, a Keystone affiliate partner is currently seeking a Contract Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) Engineer for an onsite position in Lake Charles.
Position Type: Full-time, Contract
Location: Lake Charles, LA
Work Environment/Physical Demands: Office/Sedentary
Travel Requirements: Occasional
Essential Functions:
  • The Contract Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) Engineer will evaluate Instrumentation recommendations from HAZOP/LOPA studies and develop a path forward for permanent and/or interim mitigation projects.
  • Create SIS & IPL implementation plans for instrumentation projects resulting from HAZOP/LOPA studies.
  • Develop job scope definition for SIS and IPL implementation plans including updating P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and all applicable documentation
  • Create/manage MOCs to implement instrumentation projects generated from HAZOP/LOPA studies
  • Submit engineering work request (EWR) for permanent mitigation projects that require capital funding
  • Participate in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) / Layer Of Protection Analysis (LOPA) & assist in rationalization of recommendations
  • Must have strong team-building skills with the ability to build teams across organizational lines.
  • Adopt and share instrument systems best practices with the corporate SIS tech team.

Requirements:
  • B.S. in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 3+ years of SIS experience in project and/or reliability roles.
  • 5+ years of instrumentation experience in project and/or reliability roles.
  • Experienced in the selection, specification, configuration, testing, and maintenance of safety instrumented systems following ISA / ANSI -84. 00. 01 and IEC 61508/ 61511-1, NFPA 85 / 86.
  • Experience in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and solution advocate.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.

Experience Preferred:
  • 7+ years of instrumentation experience in refining, petrochemical, or oil and gas industries.
  • Experience with sizing and selection of instrumentation in the Refining or Petrochemical industry, preferred.
  • Broad experience as a Process/Functional Safety Engineer in a Petrochemical or Refining environment.
  • Current, valid Functional Safety competency certificate (PRISM, CFSE, ISA, TUV).
  • Familiarity with SIL calculation software and P&ID symbology.
  • SAP experience.
