Job description

The Frances M. Maguire College of Nursing and Health Professions at Gwynedd Mercy University is seeking a dynamic and skilled professional to join our simulation program. This is a full-time, 12-month staff position.

Our new 63,000-square-foot Frances M. Maguire Healthcare Innovation Center is the centerpiece of the Frances M. Maguire Healthcare Innovation Campus. This state-of-the-art facility features immersive simulation and skills labs where students practice clinical skills and manage complex patient scenarios in a safe, realistic environment. The Center also fosters interprofessional collaboration across nursing, allied health, and other healthcare programs, preparing graduates to excel in today’s team-based care settings.

Overview of the Position:

The Simulation Technician manages the daily operations, scheduling, and technical oversight of the simulation laboratories within the Frances M. Maguire College of Nursing and Health Professions. This position applies advanced technical, instructional, and compliance expertise to support Nursing and Health professions education through high-fidelity simulation, virtual simulation, and related technologies.

Working in close collaboration with simulation coordinator/associates and faculty, the Simulation Technician implements and evaluates simulation activities that align with curriculum objectives and accreditation standards. The role requires independent judgment, strategic planning, and accountability for ensuring simulation operations meet institutional goals, safety requirements, and quality benchmarks. The Simulation Technician reports to the Dean and works closely with the Simulation Coordinator/Associates and Simulation Laboratory faculty.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

1. Simulation Operations Management

  • Coordinate simulation activities, including scheduling, preparing and setting up equipment, executing technical operations during events, and tearing down afterward, while ensuring proper care, maintenance, and readiness of all equipment.
  • Operate, program, and troubleshoot high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, virtual simulation platforms, and audiovisual systems.
  • Develop and implement simulation lab procedures, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with best practices.
  • Maintain and oversee simulation equipment, coordinating purchases, repairs, and vendor relationships for service and upgrades, while also managing a complete inventory of all equipment, supplies, materials, and other technologies used in the laboratory.

2. Curriculum Integration & Faculty Partnership

  • Collaborate with Simulation Coordinator/Associates and faculty to implement simulation-based learning experiences and respond to changing needs in simulation practices and operation that align with current curricular needs and accreditation standards.
  • Provide real-time technical and operational support during simulations, ensuring smooth delivery of instructional activities.
  • Advise faculty on technology integration and simulation pedagogy, providing training as needed. 

3. Compliance, Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure simulation operations comply with accreditation standards (e.g., INACSL) and institutional policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of simulation sessions, usage metrics, equipment maintenance, and compliance documentation.
  • Implement quality improvement processes based on feedback and performance data. 

4. Training & Capacity Building

  • Develop and deliver training programs for faculty, staff, and student assistants on simulation technology, equipment care, and scenario operations.
  • Serve as the primary resource for technical expertise within the College.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, biomedical engineering, instructional technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in simulation operations, healthcare education technology, or a related technical field requiring independent judgment. Experience working within an academic institution and/or in healthcare simulation preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-fidelity simulation technology, AV systems, and instructional technology integration.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to supporting collaborative, inclusive, and high-quality educational experiences.
  • Ability to safely lift 35 pounds.
