Job description

Description

Are you passionate about applying your talents to address the difficult challenges facing our warfighters such as Operationalizing Artificial Intelligence to support Achieving Robust Homeland and Theater Defenses, Accelerating Warfighting Capabilities in INDOPACOM, or Enabling Space Superiority?

Are you searching for important work in Multi-Domain mission planning and decision dominance?

Do you love participating in dynamic software development, prototyping, and transition efforts that regularly provide our warfighters new capabilities?

Would you like to make impactful contributions to the prototyping and development of sophisticated tools in support of U.S. warfighters in the armed services?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

In A5C, we develop and deploy advanced planning capabilities and solutions directly into the hands of the warfighter, empowering them to design dominant defenses for maximum performance across multiple simultaneous multiple missions, multiple services, and multiple command echelon planning levels and domains.

We are seeking an enthusiastic team member with software engineering experience willing to take on exciting assignments and willing to learn about the complexity of military systems.

As a Senior Software Engineer your duties and tasks would include:

  • Designing, developing, testing, and reviewing cyber-hardened software written in C++ and Python within classified environments. Work includes object-oriented design, algorithm design, algorithm implementation from design specifications, code refactoring, software testing, software assurance, and associated documentation.
  • Conducting high-impact engineering activities that will support the development of multi-mission and multi-service planning capabilities to predict performance of U.S. military systems.
  • Helping develop multi-mission (Ballistic Missile Defense, Space Domain Awareness, etc.) simulation software for use in analysis and integration into mission planning software.
  • Document concepts, software, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations.
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related area.
  • Have 4+ years of experience in developing applications in C++ on Linux.
  • Have 1+ years of experience in coding with Python.
  • Have experience with Git or similar version control systems.
  • Are passionate about mentoring team members and providing meaningful code reviews.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent written, oral, and communication skills when collaborating with team members, sponsors, and users.
  • Are able to acquire an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately acquire Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Possess an advanced degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Development, or a closely related area.
  • Have 7+ years of experience in software development with C++ on Linux.
  • Have used C++ build tooling such as CMake and Conan.
  • Have used Conda for package management.
  • Have a strong interest in modeling and simulation.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of software profiling and optimization, testing, and static and dynamic code analysis.
  • Have experience working with software development pipelines such as GitLab CI/CD.
