To thrive as a Simulation Manager, you need expertise in simulation-based training, project management, and a relevant degree such as in healthcare, engineering, or education. Familiarity with simulation software (e.g., Laerdal, CAE), audiovisual systems, and potentially certifications like Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) is important. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help in coordinating teams and delivering effective training experiences. These skills ensure the successful implementation and management of simulation programs that enhance learning outcomes and operational efficiency.

How does a Simulation Manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a project environment?

Simulation Managers often work closely with engineering, design, and project management teams to ensure that simulation models accurately reflect real-world scenarios. They facilitate regular meetings to gather requirements, validate data inputs, and communicate simulation results to stakeholders. Effective collaboration involves translating technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical team members, helping guide decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to ensure alignment across all involved departments.

What are Simulation Managers?

Simulation Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based training and educational programs. They often work in fields such as healthcare, aviation, or engineering, managing simulation labs, coordinating scenarios, and ensuring equipment and technology are maintained. Their duties include supervising staff, developing curricula, and ensuring that simulation activities meet organizational and accreditation standards. Simulation Managers play a key role in enhancing training outcomes by providing realistic and effective learning experiences.

Job Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We're turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard -from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
We are looking for a Lap Time Simulation Engineer to design, run, and analyze simulations in support of performance vehicle development. This role is an entry-level role for someone who can apply strong theoretical knowledge, plan and organize their own work within defined processes, and exercise independent judgment with appropriate supervision. The engineer will help build, execute, correlate, and interpret simulation studies that support vehicle content decisions and tradeoff recommendations for future vehicle programs.

Build, update, and correlate CarSim vehicle simulation models and supporting Simulink-based framework components used in the virtual xIL environment.
Work with Vehicle Performance Owners, Lead Development Engineers, and related cross-functional partners to understand study requests, gather inputs, and support Track Product Integration Team analysis.
Analyze simulation output, summarize findings, and make clear recommendations to team leaders and customers.
Coordinate with adjacent Vehicle Dynamics Center teams, including driver-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop groups, to support integrated virtual assessments.
Support requirements development, issue resolution, and continuous improvement of simulation methods, tools, and workflows within the team's established processes.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related engineering fields.
Good theoretical knowledge and engineering fundamentals in vehicle dynamics, controls, modeling, simulation, or a closely related discipline.
Ability to apply established engineering processes to identify issues, resolve problems, and propose practical solutions.
Ability to plan and organize individual work, manage assigned tasks, and deliver high-quality results with appropriate guidance.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams.
Valid driver's license and ability to operate test vehicles.
Able and willing to travel as required.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience with CarSim, Matlab/Simulink or similar engineering modeling and simulation tools.
Experience with testing, validation, or data acquisition instrumentation.
Experience with vehicle dynamics and track performance analysis.
Understanding of software development processes, control theory, and major automotive subsystems.
Hands-on motorsports, Formula SAE, SCCA, fabrication, or other practical vehicle development experience.
Demonstrated curiosity and ability to learn new tools, technologies, and methods quickly.
