Signature Reduction Analyst information

What is a signature reduction analyst?

A Signature Reduction Analyst is a professional who works to minimize the digital, physical, and operational footprints of organizations or individuals, particularly in defense or intelligence contexts. Their primary goal is to reduce the visibility and detectability of personnel, activities, and assets to adversaries or surveillance. This involves analyzing potential vulnerabilities, implementing protective measures, and ensuring compliance with security protocols. Signature reduction can encompass areas such as cyber security, communications, travel, and physical security. These analysts play a crucial role in protecting sensitive operations and maintaining operational security.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a signature reduction analyst?

To thrive as a Signature Reduction Analyst, you need expertise in intelligence analysis, operational security, and risk management, often supported by a degree in intelligence studies or a related field and relevant security clearances. Familiarity with analytical tools, classified information systems, and specialized counterintelligence databases is typically required. Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and discretion are essential soft skills for handling sensitive information and supporting covert operations. These skills and qualities are crucial for identifying and mitigating risks to protect personnel, assets, and mission integrity during sensitive operations.

What are some common challenges faced by signature reduction analysts in their daily work?

Signature Reduction Analysts often face the challenge of staying ahead of rapidly evolving surveillance and intelligence-gathering technologies. They must continuously update their knowledge of digital footprints, operational security protocols, and adversary tactics to protect personnel and sensitive information. Collaboration with cybersecurity teams, operational planners, and field agents is essential, and analysts must balance the need for operational effectiveness with stringent security requirements. Adapting to changing threats and maintaining up-to-date countermeasures are key aspects of the role.

What is the difference between Signature Reduction Analyst vs Signature Management Specialist?

AspectSignature Reduction AnalystSignature Management Specialist
Required CredentialsCertifications in security or risk management, technical knowledgeCertifications in security, compliance, or risk management
Work EnvironmentCorporate security teams, risk assessment settingsSecurity departments, compliance teams
Employer & Industry UsageFinancial institutions, government agencies, corporationsSimilar industries, focusing on security and compliance
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding roles related to security risk reductionRoles involving security signature management and compliance

The main difference is that a Signature Reduction Analyst focuses on identifying and reducing security signatures to prevent detection, while a Signature Management Specialist handles the overall management and compliance of security signatures. Both roles require similar certifications and are used within security and risk management teams in various industries.

About the Role

At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling โ€“ to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of todayโ€™s mission and stay ahead of tomorrowโ€™s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world. Our Airborne Antennas, Radome & Apertures team is recognized across the defense community as one of the most capable antenna and low observable (LO) engineering groups in the United States. Our engineers tackle some of the worldโ€™s toughest RF, antenna, and aperture challenges. We design high performance, highly integrated, mission critical antennas, radomes, and active electronically scanned arrays (AESAs). We are seeking a Principal Antenna Design Engineer to drive the development of advanced LO antennas, ultraโ€‘wideband phased arrays, and nextโ€‘generation survivability technologies for demanding systems. This role is ideal for senior engineers who want to work on programs with nationalโ€‘level importance and who excel at both deep technical analysis and handsโ€‘on engineering leadership. This position requires job duties to be performed onsite due to the sensitive nature of this work and the desire for inโ€‘person collaboration; however, we offer flexible inโ€‘office hours and the ability to perform some job duties remotely.

What You Will Do
  • Provide technical leadership on the design, modeling, realization, and verification of advanced Low Observable antennas, conformal apertures, ultraโ€‘wideband phased arrays, and passive RF structures.
  • Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems involving antenna/sensorโ€‘based applications such as radar, electronic warfare, electronic attack, electronic support measures, communications, geolocation, direction finding, etc.
  • Lead design teams through architecture trades, detailed EM analysis, LO strategy development, and integration of antenna, RCS, structural, and thermal requirements.
  • Use fullโ€‘wave computational EM tools (HFSS, CST, FEKO, SENTRi, Xโ€‘Patch or equivalent) to model antenna performance, RCS signatures, aperture interactions, and airframeโ€‘coupled electromagnetic effects.
  • Develop and refine antenna and LO design concepts considering gain, VSWR, bandwidth, field of view, scan performance, polarization purity, structural constraints, and signature objectives.
  • Guide the verification and validation of antenna and RF performance, including gain/pattern testing, polarization, insertion loss, and RCS measurement campaigns.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering to define RF, RCS requirements; develop operational concepts; and support architectureโ€‘level trade studies.
  • Translate systemโ€‘level needs into antenna level requirements, specifications, and verification plans with clear traceability.
  • Work hands on with Operations, Assembly, and Test personnel to fabricate prototypes, debug hardware, optimize builds, and support manufacturing and qualification.
  • Mentor both peers and earlyโ€‘career engineers in advanced EM modeling, LO techniques, prototyping and range testing.
  • Present complex technical findings to internal leadership, external customers, and program stakeholders with clarity and authority.
  • Contribute to technical proposals, concept generation, and competitive strategy for new business pursuits.
  • Execute tasks requiring creativity, innovation, and independent technical judgment on highโ€‘visibility programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
QualificationsYou Must Have
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years of relevant RF engineering experience, including:
    • Radar Cross Section (RCS) modeling, prediction, measurement, or reduction
    • Design, fabrication, and test of conformal antennas, phased array apertures, or RF passive components (radiators, radomes, couplers, transitions, multiโ€‘layer RF structures, FSS)
    • Ultraโ€‘wideband phased array development (TCDA, Vivaldi, Slicedโ€‘Notch, PUMA, or similar)
    • Experience with EM modeling tools such as HFSS, CST, FEKO, SENTRi, Xโ€‘Patch, or related CEM software
    • Experience leading technical tasks or project teams through design, analysis, build, and/or test
  • Strong technical leadership and experience leading project teams and technical tasks.
We Prefer
  • Masterโ€™s or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in electromagnetics, antennas, survivability, or microwave engineering.
  • Experience presenting complex technical data to leadership, customers, and engineering review boards.
  • Experience preparing and leading technical proposal efforts.
  • Experience leading contract R&D (CRAD) or advanced development programs.
  • Familiarity with structural, thermal, materials, or coatings relevant to LO apertures.
  • Ability to mentor and guide multidisciplinary teams on highโ€‘impact programs.
What We Offer
  • Salary range: $107,500 - $204,500 USD (good faith estimate).
  • Relocation based on candidate eligibility.
