Job Description

Primary responsibilities include electrical and firmware design in development of headset communication products from concept to production. Serves as leader of the audio technology team designing the next generation of headsets to be used in aviation, broadcast, and other high noise environments. Tasks include managing engineers, setting deadlines, monitoring and summarizing progress (initiate, plan, execute, document, control, close); problem recognition, escalation and resolution are key to success in this role. Design responsibilities include implementing signal processing algorithms on a low power fixed point DSPs, design and development of test procedures and will perform testing of embedded systems and related product acoustic performance. Determines the technical feasibility of future products and must stay current with the latest technologies.

The Engineering Lead works in a management capacity in addition to contributing to the project team.

Essential Functions:

  • Leading design and development of electro-acoustic and communications products for professional use (15%). 
  • Working with external design and manufacturing resources to develop headset products (25%).
  • Designing and developing acoustic and communications products for professional use. Developing technical documentation and specifications for complete documentation, manufacturing and testing activities. Serving on project design teams and collaborating with other engineers and clients to refine product design. Successfully completing work on projects for assigned product line(s) on time (30%).
  • Consulting with Marketing and Project Management regarding cost targets, technical requirements, product features, physical/mechanical appearance (10%).
  • Assisting manufacturing to improve methods to reduce costs for the best performing components (5%).
  • Researching patents, published papers and current research for active noise reduction (5%).
  • Investigating latest design practices and product performance within the industry to maintain competitive advantage (5%).
  • Assisting Product Management in defining product requirements and performance objectives. Also contributing to technical direction and assists in product design presentations (5%)
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering plus 5 years of experience, or M.S. in Electrical Engineering plus 3 years of experience in product development.
  • Experience with DSP and software/hardware design and integration.
  • Analog & analog filter design experience.
  • Circuit analysis and synthesis simulation software experience (e.g. electronic workbench) helpful.
  • Prior experience with adaptive filtering, noise and echo cancellation
  • Familiarity with hardware, hardwaresoftware integration, and debugging mythologies.
  • Acoustic design and measurement expertise using equipment such as Listen Soundcheck, B&K Pulse, Analog Precision (AP) systems, etc
  • Prior experience taking products from design concept through production.
  • Travel up to 15% (domestic & international).

Desired Experience: 

  • Strong yield optimization skills (experience with DFM, DOE, SPC, and 6 Sigma helpful).
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, working knowledge of signal processing with algorithmic development and implementation experience.
  • Must possess good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a cross functional team.
  • Knowledge of Aviation, FAA requirements.
Additional Information

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000-$145,000 annually. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc.
