Job Corps is the largest federal residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 60 years. Our Shriver campus is located right off of Route 2 in Devens, MA and services between 200 and 300 students at any given time with rolling admissions weekly. As a residential program, we function like a mini college campus, complete with a gym, basketball courts, dormitories, full-service cafeteria, wellness clinic, classrooms, trade workshops, offices, and more.

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Maintenance Assistant to join our facilities team. In this role, you will assist in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our buildings and equipment. You will work closely with our maintenance manager and senior technicians to perform routine upkeep, address daily repair requests, and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

  • Perform basic repairs such as fixing leaky faucets, replacing light bulbs, patching drywall, and painting interior/exterior surfaces.
  • Conduct routine inspections of building systems, machinery, and safety equipment to prevent major breakdowns.
  • Assist with outdoor maintenance tasks, including lawn care, sweeping walkways, clearing trash, and removing snow and ice during winter months.
  • Organize the tool and supply rooms, track inventory levels, and order replacement parts or supplies when needed.
  • Assist senior technicians with heavy-duty repairs, move furniture, set up rooms for events, and ensure compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Help oversee or guide contracted vendors/technicians when they are on-site for major repairs or servicing.
  • Completes, tracks and documents work status and notifies supervisor of issues and concerns.
  • Provides students with timely and efficient student transportation services as required.
  • May supervise Job Corpsโ€™ Work-Based Learning and Leisure Time Student Workers assigned to the department.
  • Maintains appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards.
  • Shows respect and courtesy to students and holds them accountable for their actions and behavior.
  • Works in partnership with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • May be assigned to assist in other departments as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • This role typically involves working on-site, both indoors and outdoors, and may occasionally require working evenings, weekends, or being on call for facility emergencies.ย 

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1โ€“3 years of hands-on experience in general maintenance, custodial work, or a related technical trade is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems. Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, bending, climbing ladders, and standing for long periods.
  • Previous experience working with youth preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid in-State Driverโ€™s License and meet Company insurability requirements.
