Located just steps from the PGA of America headquarters, Omni PGA Frisco Resort is a dynamic destination for golf lovers of all ages and skill levels. Home to two 18-hole championship courses-Fields Ranch East, designed by Gil Hanse, and Fields Ranch West, designed by Beau Welling-the resort offers a variety of ways to play, including The Swing, a lighted 10-hole, par-3 short course, and The Dance Floor, a 2-acre putting course and entertainment space.
Adding to its prestige, Fields Ranch East has been selected to host some of the sport's most celebrated tournaments, including the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in 2023 and 2030, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in 2025 and 2032, and the PGA Championship in 2027 and 2034-cementing Omni PGA Frisco Resort * Spa's place among the top golf destinations in the country.
Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent, the First Assistant Superintendent is a key position and second in command within the Golf Course Maintenance operations of the East golf course. This individual must always have a keen eye for detail and be able to assist the Superintendent in keeping the golf course well-groomed for daily play and for the numerous events and tournaments throughout the year. The West Assistant Superintendent I is responsible for the daily activities of the golf course maintenance staff, including supervision and training of staff to perform all the tasks associated with maintaining the golf course.
Responsibilities:
• Trains, motivates and supervises staff capable of performing the tasks associated with maintaining the golf course.
• Plans, schedules and monitors the daily operations, including responsibility for assisting in coordinating and assigning work.
• Assists GCS and Lead Assistant with recommendations concerning personnel matters such as staff performance reviews and terminations.
• Reviews golf course on a daily basis and gives feedback to both GCS to ensure agronomic, maintenance standards and departmental goals are met.
• Assist Lead GCS in documentation and filing daily records for each team member's assignments. This should be done daily with job task and completion time.
• Works directly with AIT's in monitoring golf course playing conditions primarily related to our intense moisture management programs. Follows up and checks random areas on the course to ensure proper management techniques and guidelines are being followed.
• Works directly with the Second Assistant Superintendent to ensure the proper use and management of our highly sophisticated irrigation system. Assists with monitoring and maintaining the programing systems.
• Communicates directly with the Application Foreman in regard to applications and scheduling on the golf course. Insures proper applications, tank mixing and compatibilities are met. Ensures proper operating procedures of all equipment and calibrations are met.
• Work closely with GCS on specific plans and strategies to ensure interns success.
• Ensure team members are properly using, cleaning and greasing of equipment in the morning/afternoon.
• Make sure all assigned small equipment is returned to the small equipment room and signed back in.
• Ensures that proper logging of information and data for all of the department's record keeping is accurate such as rainfall, daily weather conditions, moisture management and any additional information pertaining to our intense agronomic program and needs.
• Builds relationships and communicates with the golf shop in the morning. Inform golf shop on maintenance procedures, (topdressing, cart paths only, etc.).
• Discuss daily schedules, programs and concerns with the Golf Course Superintendent with attention to efficient management and quality control in mind. Assure that all issues and concerns are brought to the Golf Course Superintendent as quickly as possible in order to lessen potential negative impact.
• Maintain pesticide license and continual education in the field of concern or related.
• Ensures organization of the GCM facility, equipment and grounds.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Associates degree or 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver's License
• Valid Texas Pesticide Applicator License
• Able to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
• Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
