What is a Shopify Account Manager?

A Shopify Account Manager is a professional responsible for managing and optimizing Shopify stores on behalf of clients or organizations. Their duties include overseeing store setup, managing product listings, implementing marketing strategies, analyzing sales data, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. They act as the main point of contact between the client and Shopify’s platform, providing strategic guidance to help businesses grow their online presence and achieve sales goals. Excellent communication, e-commerce expertise, and strong problem-solving skills are essential for this role.

What are some common challenges faced by Shopify Account Managers, and how can they be addressed?

Shopify Account Managers often encounter challenges such as balancing the needs of multiple clients, staying updated with frequent platform updates, and troubleshooting technical or integration issues. To address these, effective time management and proactive communication are crucial, as is ongoing training to stay current with Shopify's evolving features. Collaborating closely with developers, designers, and customer support teams also helps ensure client goals are met efficiently.

Job description

The Role
We’re looking for a proactive, relationship-driven Account Manager to serve as the primary point of contact between Wallaroo Media and our clients. You’ll own the day-to-day client experience, coordinate cross-functional teams, and ensure strategies are executed on time and aligned with client goals. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, detail-oriented, and comfortable leveraging AI tools to streamline workflows and deliver smarter marketing insights.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the main liaison for a portfolio of clients, building and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships.
  • Develop and present strategic account plans, campaign roadmaps, and performance reports to clients on a regular cadence.
  • Coordinate with internal teams—including paid media, creative, SEO, and email/SMS—to ensure seamless campaign execution.
  • Monitor campaign performance using analytics tools and AI-powered platforms, proactively surfacing insights and optimization opportunities.
  • Use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, proprietary solutions) to improve efficiency in research, reporting, content ideation, and client communications.
  • Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities that align with each client’s growth objectives.
  • Manage client expectations, timelines, and deliverables with professionalism and clarity.
  • Stay current on digital marketing trends, platform updates, and emerging AI applications in the marketing space.
  • Contribute to internal process improvements and help shape the agency’s approach to AI-integrated account management.

Requirements
  • 2–4 years of experience in account management, client services, or project management at a digital marketing or advertising agency.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency: hands-on experience using AI tools (LLMs, image generators, automation platforms, etc.) to enhance work output. You don’t need to be an engineer, but you must be comfortable prompting, experimenting with, and integrating AI into everyday workflows.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels including paid social, paid search, SEO, and email/SMS.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple accounts and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, ClickUp) and reporting platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Triple Whale, Looker).
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a genuine passion for helping clients succeed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Nice to Have
  • Experience working with ecommerce or DTC brands.
  • Familiarity with Shopify, Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, and TikTok Ads.
  • Experience building or managing AI-powered automations (e.g., n8n, Zapier, Make).
  • Background in content strategy or creative direction.
