Job Description
Madden Marine is seeking Paint Shop Laborers for our client on Swan Island in Portland, OR. This entry-level role supports paint shop and surface preparation crews by assisting with material handling, masking, cleaning, blasting support, and coating preparation. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and willing to learn industrial painting in a shipyard environment.
Pay & Schedule
Pay: $21.50/hour
Shift: Day Shift, 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Schedule Expectations: Overtime and weekend work required
Position Type: Full-Time
Key Responsibilities
โ€ข Assist painters and blasters with surface preparation and coating projects
โ€ข Remove contaminants from steel surfaces prior to blasting and painting
โ€ข Help with masking, containment setup, and protection of surrounding work areas
โ€ข Support blasting operations including blast pot tending and material handling
โ€ข Assist with mixing coatings and maintaining paint logs as directed
โ€ข Operate hand and power tools under supervision for surface preparation activities
โ€ข Help load, unload, organize, and stage tools, materials, and equipment throughout vessels and job sites
โ€ข Assist with pressure washing, cleaning, and general housekeeping duties
โ€ข Support demolition and removal of coatings, flooring, adhesives, and related materials as needed
โ€ข Maintain clean and organized work areas while following all safety procedures and PPE requirements
Required Qualifications
โ€ข Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools or willingness to learn
โ€ข Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding work
โ€ข Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and aboard marine vessels
โ€ข Ability to wear respirators and other required PPE
โ€ข Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 60 lbs
โ€ข Ability to work on feet for extended periods and climb ladders throughout the workday
โ€ข Ability to work overtime and weekends as required
โ€ข US Citizenship required due to work performed on government-owned property
โ€ข Safety-toed boots (6" or higher, steel or composite toe) required
