Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a skilled Welder Technician (Line Bore) to join the SDM Co. team. You'll take on complex welding repairs, fabrication, torch work, and line boring on heavy equipment and components - both in the shop and in the field. If you can read blueprints, build a material list, quote jobs, and knock out precise repairs with zero hand-holding, this is where you belong.

What You'll Do

  • Perform all aspects of welding and fabrication (FCAW, SMAW, GTAW).
  • Conduct line boring and heavy equipment repair with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with job evaluation and quoting, in both shop and field environments.
  • Read blueprints, develop procedures, and source materials.
  • Train and assist other team members when needed.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate work orders.
  • Represent SDM Co. with integrity and professionalism on every job.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience with heavy equipment welding, fabrication, and line boring.
  • Proficiency in:
    • FCAW 1" 3G & 4G (A36 and T1)
    • SMAW 1" 3G & 4G (A36 and T1)
    • GTAW 3/8" 3G & 4G
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, drawings, and procedures.
  • Experience operating forklifts, cranes, and material handling equipment.
  • Self-motivated, safety-minded, and dependable.
  • Willingness to adapt, learn, and help wherever needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs (team or mechanical lift for more).
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, climbing, and working in tight spaces.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Able to safely maneuver around and under heavy equipment.
