Job description

Shipping & Receiving Technician

Opal Foods is currently accepting applications for the position of Shipping & Receiving for our Hampton Processing Plant in Hampton, IA. This cross-function position is primarily responsible for transporting packaging and finished product, shipping pallets of our eggs to vendors and customers, receiving product packaging and other supplies, maintaining accurate daily paperwork and counting inventory. May assist with other projects and duties as needed. Working hours include weekend and holiday hours to meet customer requirements. We operate 7 days a week. Must have excellent work ethic, strong attention to detail and be extremely reliable and punctual.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Opal Foods policies and procedures, including Safety, Bio-Security, FDA, SQF, and GMP guidelines.
  • Accurately count and track inventory using an automated inventory system.
  • Inspect, receive, and document all incoming shipments for cleanliness, pest control, odors, and proper seals.
  • Prepare outgoing refrigerated trailers, ensuring they are set to the correct temperature before loading.
  • Load, seal, and assign loads to drivers for shipment.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the cooler and warehouse.
  • Unload, inspect, and document all received packaging materials and supplies.
  • Operate electric pallet jacks, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Utilize the company yard truck to move trailers as needed.
  • Assist team members with additional tasks as required throughout the workday.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Prior warehouse experience in shipping, receiving, and inventory preferred.
  • Proven experience operating ride-on pallet jacks.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs from 2 feet to 5 feet and 50 lbs from 6 feet to ground level.
  • Capable of sustaining a high work pace for extended periods (up to 3 hours continuously).
  • Comfortable working in varying conditions, including cold storage, refrigerated trailers, and high-temperature environments during summer months.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with drivers and colleagues.
  • Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English, as well as verify documentation accurately.
  • Dependable and flexible, with availability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Physically capable of performing essential job functions, including walking, standing, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and operating machinery.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
