Shipping Manager

Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Vice President of Manufacturing

Direct Reports: Shipping and Packaging Team Members

Summary

The Shipping Manager provides direct leadership and accountability for warehouse teams. This position is responsible and accountable for managing incoming materials and shipping of finished goods. They support material delivery to external and internal customers, as well as ensuring the accuracy of inventory, inspection of packaging and labeling requirements (and remediation if defective) and timely execution of shipments. This role may also include (at peak times) offloading/loading of vehicles, receipt of goods, positioning in racks and physical order preparation.

Essential Functions/Duties

  1. Ensure that all employees observe and maintain a safe working environment.
  2. Provide the Shipping team with clear goals, objectives and performance feedback, coaching and developing direct reports to improve the culture of the team and site.
  3. Manage staffing levels to meet business delivery and cost goals
  4. Ensure associates deliver high quality products to our customers.
  5. Manage shipping department targets operational costs, inventory control, equipment/process efficiencies (labor, energy, etc.), and departmental productivity as assigned.
  6. Ensure the facilities and equipment are clean and able to support our customers and employees.
  7. Employ negotiation tactics to guarantee competitive pricing with vendors and sub-suppliers.

Physical/Cognitive Demands

This is largely a physically active role including walking long distances (over uneven surfaces) to/within our production facility, lifting 50lbs or more and standing for long periods. Position also requires bending, stooping, squatting or standing as necessary. Cognitive abilities required include deductive reasoning, information ordering, oral comprehension, oral expression, problem sensitivity, written comprehension, and written expression.

Position Type/Expected Hour of Work

The regular schedule will be M-F 7am-4pm. Mandatory overtime hours (including weekend work) are required on a recurring basis. Regular travel (up to 25%) is an essential function of the job.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Must have shipping/receiving department experience including utilizing/managing shipping software.
  2. Solid understanding of freight rates and lanes is required
  3. Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
  4. Five or more years of Proven Leadership experience
  5. An equivalent combination of both education and leadership experience may be acceptable

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Manufacturing and Sales organization experience is a plus.
