Shipping Department Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and people-focused Department Manager to lead shipping and distribution operations in a fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for driving safety, service, quality, and productivity while developing high-performing teams and ensuring exceptional customer support across the supply chain.

  • Build strong relationships with associates and foster a culture of trust, accountability, and engagement.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors through regular one-on-one conversations and performance discussions.
  • Identify and develop future leaders by creating growth and advancement opportunities for team members.
  • Provide timely coaching and feedback to support safety, performance, and professional development.
  • Maintain an open-door culture where associates feel valued, heard, and empowered to contribute ideas.
Operational Excellence
  • Lead daily shipping and distribution operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective performance.

  • Partner with Engineering, HR, EHS, Transportation, Customer Service, Sales, and other key stakeholders to improve operational performance.

  • Lead cross-functional meetings to align priorities, communicate business needs, and proactively address challenges.
Safety & Quality
  • Champion a strong safety culture by reinforcing safe work practices and addressing opportunities proactively.
  • Partner with EHS and operational leaders to investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
Customer & Supply Chain Partnership
  • Collaborate with Transportation, Customer Service, Regional Operations, Global Sourcing, and Sales teams to ensure timely order fulfillment and exceptional service.
  • Support urgent customer and business needs while maintaining operational continuity.
  • Work closely with distribution and supply chain partners to improve throughput, reduce dwell time, and optimize overall network performance.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree and 1+ years of leadership experience in Distribution, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Operations OR High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in Distribution, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Operations
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and highly organized.
  • Ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
Preferred
  • Experience leading distribution, warehouse, shipping, or logistics operations.
  • Knowledge of transportation, order fulfillment, and supply chain processes.
  • Experience using warehouse management, transportation management, or enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with Shaw order fulfillment processes and systems
