Position Summary

The Shipping Manager oversees all outbound shipping operations for customers and production cabinet manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring finished cabinetry, doors, panels, and hardware are staged, packaged, loaded, and delivered accurately, on time, and damage-free. The Shipping Manager leads the shipping team, coordinates with production and sales, manages carriers and delivery routes, and drives continuous improvement in throughput, cost, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Scheduling

  • Plan and manage daily shipping schedules based on production completion dates, customer install dates, and delivery commitments
  • Coordinate with production, scheduling, and customer service to confirm order completeness before release
  • Stage jobs by order, room, and installation sequence so dealers and installers receive complete, organized shipments
  • Manage will-call pickups, company delivery trucks, LTL/FTL carriers, and third-party freight

Packaging & Quality

  • Ensure cabinets are wrapped, corner-protected, palletized, and secured to prevent scratches, chips, and transit damage
  • Perform final inspection and verify piece counts, finishes, and hardware against pick lists and packing slips
  • Track and investigate damage claims, shortages, and misships; implement corrective actions

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and schedule shipping leads, loaders, forklift operators, and drivers
  • Set productivity and accuracy targets; conduct performance reviews and coaching
  • Enforce safety procedures, including forklift certification, lifting practices, and dock safety

Logistics & Carrier Management

  • Select and negotiate with freight carriers; audit freight invoices and manage shipping costs
  • Optimize delivery routes and truckloads to reduce cost per shipment
  • Maintain compliance with DOT regulations for company fleet, including driver logs and vehicle inspections

Systems & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate shipping records in the ERP/WMS (e.g., Cabinet Vision, 2020, Microvellum, or company ERP)
  • Report on-time delivery, damage rate, shipping cost, and labor productivity metrics weekly
  • Manage inventory of packaging materials, pallets, and shipping supplies
Qualifications

Required

  • 3–5 years of shipping, warehouse, or logistics supervision experience in manufacturing
  • Experience shipping large, finished, or fragile goods (cabinetry, furniture, millwork, or similar)
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain within 30 days
  • Proficiency with ERP/WMS systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; able to manage competing priorities under deadlines

Preferred

  • Experience in cabinet, furniture, or wood products manufacturing
  • Knowledge of LTL/FTL freight, DOT compliance, and carrier negotiation
  • Lean/5S or continuous improvement experience
  • Valid CDL or experience managing a delivery fleet
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs with assistance
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing in and out of trailers
  • Work in a manufacturing/warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures
  • Occasional early mornings, extended hours, or weekends to meet delivery deadlines
