Job description

WELCOME!Position Summary

We are seeking an organised and proactive Shipping Manager to lead our shipping and distribution operations. The role is responsible for overseeing inbound and outbound shipments, managing warehouse and carrier relationships, ensuring timely and accurate fulfilment, and maintaining compliance with safety and transportation regulations. The successful candidate will collaborate with operations, inventory control, and customer service teams to optimise shipping processes and support continuous improvement. Reasonable adjustments will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily shipping and receiving activities, including scheduling, carrier selection, documentation and tracking to ensure on-time delivery and receipt of goods.

  • Supervise warehouse loading/unloading, picking, packing and dispatch workflows to maintain accuracy and productivity targets.

  • Develop and maintain shipping procedures, bills of lading, packing lists, export/import documentation and any required compliance paperwork.

  • Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to negotiate rates, monitor performance and resolve service issues or claims.

  • Oversee inventory control practices related to shipping and receiving, including cycle counts, discrepancy investigations and stock movements.

  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time dispatch, shipping accuracy and cost per shipment; produce regular reports for management.

  • Ensure health, safety and security procedures are followed in all shipping areas, including correct use of PPE and safe handling of goods.

  • Manage and develop the shipping team through coaching, training, scheduling and performance reviews.

  • Work with procurement and production planning to prioritise urgent orders and support peak season planning.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in shipping, logistics or warehouse management, including supervising teams and managing carriers.

  • Knowledge of shipping documentation, international trade procedures and transportation regulations preferred.

  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), transport management systems (TMS) or ERP systems; strong IT literacy.

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience liaising across functions and with external partners.

  • Analytical mindset with experience using KPIs and reporting to drive operational improvements.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation and shipping processes.

  • Full UK driving licence preferred; forklift licence or experience operating warehouse equipment is advantageous.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours when required to meet operational demands, including occasional early starts or extended shifts.

Physical & Safety Requirements
  • Regular standing, walking and manual handling of packages and pallets.

  • Occasional lifting of items up to 25 kg with assistance or mechanical aid as required.

  • Use of PPE and adherence to warehouse safety protocols at all times.

  • Ability to work in varied temperature environments typical of warehouse and loading areas.

Compensation & Schedule

Salary: $25 an hour

Working hours: Monday–Friday standard hours with occasional early starts or extended shifts during peak periods
