The Area Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily Packaging, Picking, Shipping and Receiving operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant outbound shipments. This role leads hourly associates, coordinates labor and equipment, monitors performance metrics, and enforces safety and quality standards while driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Execution

  • Supervise daily packaging, picking, receiving and shipping activities, including order fulfillment, staging, loading, and outbound transportation
  • Ensure shipments are accurate, on time, and compliant with company and customer standards
  • Monitor workflow, shipments, and dock activity to meet productivity goals
  • Execute SAP and/or WMS transactions related to shipping and receiving
  • Monitor WIP and outbound volume to balance labor and priorities
  • Develop planning to execute against the Supply Chain OMP
  • Provide technical input for capital projects, process changes, and equipment upgrades

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop shipping associates to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals
  • Review and approve timecards, overtime, and attendance in ADP
  • Recognize employee contributions through engagement and recognition programs (e.g., Shout Out)
  • Conduct Gemba walks to ensure housekeeping, safety, and standard work compliance
  • Address performance, attendance, and behavioral issues in accordance with policy

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all safety procedures, policies, and PPE requirements
  • Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions
  • Ensure team certifications, qualifications, and recertifications are current
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor shipping accuracy, damages, and customer complaints
  • Identify root causes of errors and implement corrective actions
  • Assist with audits, inspections and continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 5S, operator standard work, etc.)
  • Participation in Tier I, II, III production and maintenance meetings
  • Support implementation of new technologies, tools, or process changes in operations

Administrative & Reporting

  • Review reports including overdue, staffing, WIP, and production metrics
  • Update staffing and performance reports as required
  • Approve or deny timeoff requests and scheduling changes
  • Reconcile credit card expenses and support procurement processes (WebCycles)
  • Complete required iLearn training and ensure team compliance

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong working knowledge of safety and quality standards
  • Experience with WMS, SAP, or similar systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Willing and able to work on-call as needed

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Operations, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Forklift or material handling equipment certification
  • Experience leading in a highvolume, 24/7 distribution or manufacturing environment
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement exposure
