The Shipping Clerk is responsible for outbound dock operations within the distribution center. This is a hands-on, equipment-intensive role: approximately 70% of the shift is spent operating a forklift and other powered equipment to stage, load, and secure outbound freight, with the remaining time spent preparing shipping documentation, updating shipping metrics, and moving material throughout the warehouse in support of outbound flow. The Shipping Clerk ensures that all outbound freight ships accurately, on time, and in compliance with company and carrier requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•      Operate forklifts, powered pallet jacks, and dock equipment to stage, load, and secure outbound freight across the shift.

•      Load trucks, trailers, and containers according to order, route, and carrier requirements, ensuring proper load securement and weight distribution.

•      Complete daily pre-shift equipment inspections and document results per company policy.

•      Prepare and process outbound customer shipments, ensuring correct product, quantity, and packaging prior to dispatch.

•      Create and print shipping labels accurately through ShipStation, FedEx, UPS, USPS, and carrier-specific platforms.

•      Prepare, review, and maintain Bills of Lading (BOLs), packing slips, and other required shipping documentation.

•      Ensure proper pallet wrapping, stacking, and load securement for safe transport.

•      Verify shipment accuracy against orders and documentation before releasing freight.

•      Update daily shipping metrics, such as orders shipped, units or pallets shipped, and on-time dispatch, in Excel or the ERP system.

•      Coordinate carrier pickups and outbound dock scheduling with the supervisor and operations team.

•      Communicate shipment status, delays, carrier issues, or discrepancies to supervision in real time.

•      Move, stage, and relocate material throughout the warehouse using powered equipment as needed to support outbound flow and general operations.

•      Maintain shipping lanes and dock areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition at all times.

•      Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or product damage to the supervisor immediately.

•      Follow all company safety, housekeeping, and documentation standards.

•      Support other warehouse functions as needed during high-volume or seasonal periods.

Requirements

•      High school diploma or GED required.

•      Minimum 1–2 years of shipping or dock operations experience required.

•      Valid forklift certification required; certification may be obtained onsite.

•      Demonstrated proficiency loading trucks, trailers, or containers with powered industrial equipment.

•      Experience with shipping platforms (ShipStation, FedEx, UPS) and knowledge of BOL documentation preferred.

•      Experience using Blue Cherry WMS or other warehouse management systems preferred.

•      Basic Excel skills, including data entry and updating tracking spreadsheets.

•      Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced dock environment.

Physical & Work Environment

•      Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.

•      Regular operation of powered industrial equipment (forklift, electric pallet jack, dock levelers).
