POSITION PURPOSE:

During assigned work hours, supervises functions and activities within CGH Medical Center, performs patient care duties in any capacity as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains awareness of institutional activities and functions.
  • Coordinates and assigns personnel to maintain continuity and quality patient care.
  • Utilizes proper verbal and non-verbal communication skills and techniques when interacting with staff, peers and administrative personnel.
  • Maintains clinical competency in nursing based on current scientific knowledge.
  • Assists with development, implementation and evaluation of ongoing QI programs.
  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness.
  • Assists with preparation and maintenance of documentation as required by professional and organizational standards, including but not limited to, incidents, discipline/counseling, competencies, schedules, orientation, policies and procedures, proposal for equipment, supplies, capital expenditures, staff meetings and time and attendance.
  • Provides leadership to patient care areas when Department Directors are unavailable, providing appropriate counseling and initiating disciplinary action where required.
  • Manages emergency situations in a proficient and appropriate manner.
  • Performs work on special projects as needed.

SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse Licensure required.
  • Associate's in Nursing required; Bachelor's in Nursing preferred.
  • BLS required within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment at CGH.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in acute care settings strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years charge or supervisory nursing experience strongly preferred.
