Job Description:

Working directly under the supervision of the Histology Supervisor, theLaboratory Assistantis responsible forassistingthe Histotechnologists, Cytotechnologists, and Pathologists by performing routine tasks in the laboratory, such as receiving, accessioning, and processingthe pathologic specimens arriving at our pathology laboratory.

PrimaryDuties &Responsibilities:

  • Accession and gross surgical tissues for processing and eventual microscopic evaluation.

  • Load the tissue blocks on the processor.

  • Perform H & E andPapanicolaoustainingand cover slip all surgical and cytologic specimen slides.

  • Organize cases by matching slides with paperwork and laying slides out in slide folders.

  • Prepare cytology slides using techniques and guidelinesestablishedby our laboratory.

  • Keep supplies fully stocked.

  • Organize and label slides/paperwork and keep records of tests.

  • Dispose of laboratory waste and change solutions appropriately.

  • Perform other laboratory and office duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma. Associates or higherdegreepreferred.

  • Minimum ofone-yearrelevant experience as a Laboratory Assistant with Clinical lab/histology experience desired.

Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:

  • Ability to multi-task, self-motivation, reliability, and accountability in meeting timelines.

  • Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong customer service/relations skills.

Travel:

  • Must have theability & willingnessto travel to othersites as necessary within ageographic region.

Physical Requirements for theJob:

  • Regularly required to sit 4-7 hours/day and stand1-3 hours/day.

  • Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak,and listen.

  • Sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work that changes in distance from eyes.

  • Finger dexterityisrequiredto manipulate objects with fingers.

  • Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Job Type:Full-Time
Pay Range:$22.00 - $26.00 per hour
