Job description

Please note that this position is for an upcoming position. We are, however, accepting applications for this anticipated need. If you are interested in joining The Building People, we encourage you to APPLY TODAY!

The Building People, LLC is seeking a qualified Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) to provide safe, reliable transportation for senior federal executives in the Washington, DC Metro area. The MVO operates various types and classes of motor vehicles — including buses, trucks, vans, and shuttle vans — on scheduled or special runs between government facilities. This is an as-needed position that must be performed without government supervision or intervention and requires excellent driving skills, punctuality, and a strong commitment to customer service.
The MVO verifies passengers against manifest and completes all required paperwork including trip tickets and fuel dispensing records. The MVO adheres to all state, local, and installation traffic laws and ordinances, maneuvers vehicles in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets and congested parking lots, and performs routine preventative maintenance checks on assigned vehicles. The MVO maintains a professional appearance and courteous demeanor at all times, reports all incidents and accidents promptly, and supports executive transportation needs during and outside of standard business hours.

Required Experience & Skills

  • The MVO must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and a minimum of five years of professional driving experience. The MVO must demonstrate the ability to safely operate a variety of motor vehicles across diverse road conditions. The MVO must maintain vigilance and alertness to cope with adverse traffic and weather conditions, and be capable of maneuvering large vehicles including buses around sharp corners and through confined urban spaces. The MVO must be able to interpret instructions and specifications for mobile equipment operations and complete all required trip documentation accurately. The MVO must also be capable of performing first-echelon maintenance tasks such as changing tires and making limited emergency repairs, including installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways.
  • The MVO must be in good physical condition when performing driving and related services, particularly during extended periods of time and distance. This position requires light physical effort to operate hand and foot controls, moderate physical effort including the frequent handling of objects in excess of 50 pounds, and considerable physical effort for vehicle maintenance tasks as needed.
  • All personnel must obtain and maintain a Public Trust (Level 3) security clearance.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Prior experience as a professional chauffeur or executive transportation driver is preferred. Experience transporting senior government officials or federal executives is a plus. Familiarity with the Washington, DC Metro area road network, including government facility access protocols, is strongly preferred.

Required Education

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (General Educational Development, or GED)

Preferred Education

  • Completion of a professional driving, transportation, or automotive technology program is preferred. Any formal training in vehicle operations, defensive driving, or fleet maintenance is also advantageous.
