Job description

Simmons & White, Inc. is a full-service engineering firm headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida. We provide comprehensive civil and traffic/transportation engineering services to a broad spectrum of private and municipal clients for over 40 years.

We are seeking a Civil Engineer- EIT or PE, to join our Charleston, South Carolina office. This person will be working on Commercial, Residential, and Municipal Land Development projects, with an emphasis on stormwater management (drainage/stormwater design and permitting). The initial responsibilities of the candidate will be the preparation of Site Development Plans and supporting calculations for Land Development Projects.


Candidates will be expected to perform the following:

· Site Investigation & Due Diligence, including the review of ordinances, utility service research, agency regulations and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines and Due Diligence Reports.

· Preparation of Conceptual Engineering Drawings based upon client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence.

· Design of Stormwater Management & Stormwater Conveyance Systems, including use of Hydrology design software. Skills should include preparation of pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems, including drainage area maps, surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity & hydraulic grade line evaluation using the Rational Method & Manning’s Equation. Knowledge of stormwater management design regulations should include County, SCD and governing municipality. Proficiency with ICPR4, Stormcad, SFWMD Cascade and Nutrient Loading BMP Software preferred.

· Grading Design and earthwork analysis.

· Design of Utility Systems, including sanitary sewer and lift station design, water distribution system including fire flow calculations, etc.

· Soil Erosion & Sediment Control Design

· Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates

· Project Coordination, including attendance of project Team meetings/virtual meetings

· Preparation of Written Correspondence with outside agencies, client, attorney, contractor, etc. Also includes preparation of technical reports including drainage, sanitary sewer and site investigation reports.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2 years local/relevant experience

- EIT or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment

- Experience/Proficiency with AutoCad Civil 3D Land Development Software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, be a self-starter, and have a strong desire to learn and excel under the mentoring of a company principal
