Job description

Set-Up Technician

Pay: $20/hr. or more depending on experience

Shift: 2nd

Description:

  • The Set-Up Technician configures, sets, plumbs, and removes molds in injection molding machines. Sets-up related equipment in accordance with established procedures.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience with machine set-up; experience in plastic molding is preferred
  • Supervisory/Lead experience is beneficial
  • Experience with injection molding process or able to pass a mechanical reasoning test
  • Intermediate computer working knowledge
  • Forklift experience is preferred
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, and lift up to 45 lbs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Minimizes downtime for setups
  • MCT injection molded products

Duties:

  • Start and stop production of work orders according to production schedule and established procedures by:
    • completing line clearance from previous job
    • setting molds and related process equipment
    • setting up conveyors, fixtures, and general work cell to optimal specifications
    • setting up secondary and assembly operations
  • Maximize Throughput by:
    • anticipating and planning for efficient job changeovers
    • Continually developing and improving methods used for job changeover such as pre-heat, quick-change, and manifold techniques.
    • monitoring equipment condition and reporting any immediate maintenance needs
    • advising scheduler of any scheduling conflicts
  • Stage molds and required equipment for next shift
  • Assist in routine maintenance of support equipment by:
    • Completing simple, routine maintenance tasks including cleaning mold parting line surface and greasing guide pins if need
    • completing an electronic Work Order for any inoperative equipment
  • Maintains a safe working environment by:
    • performing set-ups with high consideration given to worker safety
    • following and enforcing safety rules and regulations.
  • Cleaning press area after setting molds (I.E. rags, oil pads, tools, hoses, clamps and bolts)
  • Promotes continuous improvement and overall quality by:
    • engineering and documenting optimal, balanced downstream operations
  • Configuring the operator's work cell to establish standard configurations

Authorities/Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Authorized to stop and start production as required
  • Basic supervisory responsibilities
