Common Search & ComparisonSet Medic vs Set Nurse

The main difference between a Set Medic and a Set Nurse lies in their certifications and roles. Set Medics typically hold EMT or Paramedic licenses and provide emergency medical support on film sets or events. Set Nurses usually have RN or LPN licenses and may offer more comprehensive medical care. Both roles work in similar environments but differ in scope of practice and medical qualifications.

What are set medics?

Set medics are healthcare professionals who provide on-site medical care and emergency response services on film, television, or commercial production sets. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of cast, crew, and production staff by handling medical emergencies, administering first aid, and offering basic health guidance. Set medics are typically certified paramedics, EMTs, or nurses with additional training in set safety. They also help identify potential hazards and work closely with production managers to create a safe working environment.

What Does a Set Medic Do?

A set medic is either an EMT or paramedic who provides emergency medical assistance to individuals involved with TV or film productions. As a set medic, you work on set with actors and other production crew. Your responsibilities include waiting on standby for medical issues that arise during shooting. Other duties include advising the production team on safety issues regarding various parts of films, shows, or music videos. When working as a set medic, you travel to shooting locations, often for long periods. You may work around water, at heights, in studios, or any other place a production takes place.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Set Medic, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Set Medic, you need a solid background in emergency medical care, typically as a certified EMT or paramedic, along with up-to-date CPR and first aid credentials. Familiarity with medical equipment, incident reporting systems, and on-set safety protocols is crucial. Strong observational skills, calm decision-making, and effective communication enable quick responses and foster trust with cast and crew. These competencies ensure the health, safety, and well-being of everyone on set, enabling productions to proceed smoothly and safely.

What are some common challenges faced by set medics on film and television productions?

Set medics often encounter the challenge of responding quickly to medical incidents in dynamic, sometimes unpredictable environments. They must stay vigilant during physically demanding scenes or stunts and be prepared to treat a range of issues from minor injuries to more serious emergencies. Additionally, set medics need to build strong communication with cast, crew, and production staff to promote safety and ensure timely reporting of hazards. Balancing proactive safety measures with immediate care is a core part of the role.

Job description

This role is designed to move you toward ownership of a real, profitable business in one of the most recession-resistant segments of the home service industry.

Crawlspace Medic is the leading franchise in the crawl space and basement repair space. We're growing, and we're looking for an operator-minded leader to open a local market โ€” someone who thinks like a business owner because they intend to become one.

Who This Is For

You've led teams, managed operations, and driven results. But you've hit a ceiling. You're executing someone else's vision and you know you're capable of more. You want skin in the game.

This role is for the leader who is done being managed and ready to build something that's actually theirs. You don't need capital on day one โ€” you need the discipline, the drive, and the leadership track record to earn your way into ownership.

If you're looking for a job to collect a paycheck and follow a checklist, this isn't it. If you're looking for a vehicle to build something meaningful under a proven system โ€” with a clear path to owning it โ€” keep reading.

The Role

As General Manager, you will run the day-to-day operations of a Crawlspace Medic franchise location โ€” accountable for the full business: people, performance, and profit. You'll operate within a proven playbook, but you'll own the outcomes.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Setting and executing local growth strategy
  • Building, developing, and retaining a high-performing field team
  • Owning P&L performance, KPIs, and unit economics
  • Holding people to clear standards
  • Driving system-based execution with consistency and discipline
  • Representing the Crawlspace Medic brand with integrity in your market
The Ownership Path

This role is structured with a specific outcome in mind: you operate the business, grow it, and buy into ownership. An investor funds the franchise. You run it. As the business performs, you have the opportunity to buy out your investor and become the franchisee. This is the model โ€” and we have 35 operational units to prove it.

Requirements

An A-Player in this role has:

  • A demonstrated track record of leading teams to measurable outcomes in a process-driven, labor-intensive environment
  • Experience building or enforcing standard operating procedures โ€” not just following them when convenient
  • A proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain strong people
  • The discipline to have hard conversations early, not late
  • An understanding of sales, marketing, and capacity planning at the unit level
  • A history of driving growth in key performance metrics
  • Comfort being held fully accountable for results
  • Openness to feedback and a hunger for improvement over validation
  • The grit to operate under pressure without losing focus
  • MUST APPRECIATE A BLUE COLLAR PROFESSIONAL ATMOSPHERE. Our culture and business is built โ€œin the dirtโ€.
  • Physical activities (in addition to standard work activities) of this position include: Crawling - hands and knees, belly (army) crawling, maneuvering in tight spaces, working in dark spaces, handling light hand tools, as necessary.

The mindset gap we most often see: candidates who are excellent at executing within a tightly managed corporate structure but have never had to build anything โ€” recruit their own team, set their own culture, or be the last line of accountability. This role requires the latter. If your instinct is to wait for direction, this will be a hard transition. If your instinct is to find a way, you'll thrive here.

Benefits

  • Full-time W-2, salary exempt
  • Performance-based compensation: base salary + profit sharing (no cap)
  • Company vehicle
  • 2 weeks PTO
  • On-the-job training, development, and leadership transformation
What to Expect

A-Player General Managers should expect to make the following:

  • Year 1 = $85k
  • Year 2 = $100-110k
  • Year 3 = $125 - $135k
Next Steps

Qualified candidates will complete a brief application, a job fit assessment, and a short recorded interview before advancing to an in-depth conversation. We move deliberately because we're looking for a specific kind of person.

If you're an A-Player who wants to build something real, measurable, and ultimately yours, apply now.
