Job description

JOB TITLE: Kitchen Assistant / Dishwasher
DEPARTMENT: Dietary
REPORTS TO: Sr.Food Service Director
HOURS: Part time - Evenings and weekends
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for preforming a variety of duties in the Dietary Department to insure the area is kept clean and all services are accomplished in a customer friendly environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. To ensure adequate supply of clean utensils and dishes and pots and pans for use.
  2. Scrap trays, soak dishes, utensils, and assemble dish machine.
  3. Operate an industrial dishwasher.
  4. Set up and wash pots and pans.
  5. Removal of trash from kitchen.
  6. Operate an industrial dishwasher.
  7. To ensure proper safety and sanitation guidelines are used.
  8. Perform opening and closing side work.
  9. Clean up spills or broken glassware immediately.
  10. To provide quality food to residents, visitors, employees and guests in a timely manner.
  11. Making tea and coffee, cleaning coffee machines in health care.
  12. Working on tray line, setting up the trays with utensils, napkins, condiments, read and call out the diet cards, some bending over for tray and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  13. Putting plates, desserts, and drink on tray then put on cart, some bending is required as well
  14. Cleaning area and putting away milk and juice.
  15. Empty and clean tea urns and coffee pots.
  16. Pick up trays and trash from floor
  17. Assist with sweeping and mopping the floor.
  18. Must be able to lift trash cans.
  19. Reports all unusual conditions, behaviors, and/or resident reactions to the appropriate Licensed personnel in a timely manner.
  20. Responds and reacts in a kind, polite, and professional manner to residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and supervision.
  21. Responsible for protecting any confidential information concerning residents, family, and/or the organization.
  22. Must demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to all Safety procedures and facility Fire, Disaster, and Bomb Threat procedures.
  23. Adheres to all organizational, departmental, and nursing procedures in the performance of position responsibilities.
  24. Must attend organizational or departmental conferences and/or in-services as scheduled.
  25. Report any sanitation or janitorial issues to the appropriate party.
  26. May be required to perform other duties in keeping with the nature of this position which will not significantly alter the job requirements

Specific Requirements:
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant it.
  • Able to read, write and speak English in an understandable manner.
  • Able to manage time, multiple tasks, and projects.

Education and/or Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in food service preferred.
