Position Summary

The Health and Wellness Coordinatordevelops, implements, and oversees health and wellness programs that foster an engaging and supportive environment for members. This role includes managing personal training and wellness initiatives to enhance the overall member experience and program effectiveness.

Following the Y of San Francisco's member engagement strategies, the coordinator collaborates with branch leadership and wellness staff to increase participation, ensure program quality, and align offerings with community needs. Responsibilities include scheduling, staff development, andmaintainingaccurate, branded wellness materials.

Job Responsibilities

Program Design & Implementation

  • Develop and manage health and wellness programs, including group fitness classes, personal training, wellness challenges, andspecial events.
  • Maintain fitness program schedules and oversee space and equipment needs.
  • Organize member challenges, fitness assessments, and wellness coaching to support progress and motivation.

Program Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Track and analyze program effectiveness using member feedback, participation rates, and health outcomes.
  • Ensureaccuratedata collection, tracking, and reporting using YMCA membership and fitness-related software.
  • Provide regular reports on program participation, member feedback, and overall success to senior leadership.
  • Analyze data toidentifyareas for improvement, growth opportunities, and engagement strategies.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Recruit, train, and supervise personal trainers and wellness coaches.
  • Conduct performance evaluations andprovideprofessional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment aligned with YMCA core values.

Member Engagement & Retention

  • Develop strategies to engage andretainmembers through personalized fitness plans, goal setting, and regular follow-ups.
  • Implement and oversee fitness tracking systems like U-Pace for goal setting and performance optimization.
  • Utilize tools such as UPACE for class and session reservations and attendance tracking.
  • Maintain a welcoming and supportive environment for members of all fitness levels.

Facility & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, local regulations, and industry health and safety standards.
  • Assistinmaintainingthe cleanliness and functionality of the fitness facility.
  • Stay informed on fitness trends and certifications tomaintainhigh-quality programming.

Administrative & Direct Service Responsibilities

  • Work up to 20 hours in an administrative capacity, including program coordination, staff supervision, and strategic planning.
  • Complete semi-monthly Healthy Living staff ADP payroll sign-offto ensureaccurateandtimelypayroll processing.
  • Work up to 20 hours in direct service, conducting wellness orientations, teaching group exercise classes, and engaging members in their health and fitness goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Availability for morning, evening, and weekend shifts
  • 2+of administrative and customer service experience
  • Ability to teach a variety of health and fitness programs with an advanced understanding of YMCA healthy living initiatives
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills
  • Experience in hiring and supervising staff
  • YMCA-approved CPR and First Aid certification (within90 daysof hire)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 1+year of experience coordinating or teaching group exercise and personal training
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese,Mandarinor any other languages.

This position requires a balance of administrative and direct service work, with up to 20 hours per week dedicated to program coordination, staff supervision, and data tracking. The remaining hours involve leading group fitness classes, conducting wellness coaching sessions, and fostering member engagement. Ensuring a clean, safe, and inclusive environment is essential, requiring adherence to YMCA policies and health and safety standards. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, member-focused setting,maintaininga welcoming atmosphere for individuals of all fitness levels.
