Job Posting Title: Director, Project Engineering - 119254

Position Summary:

The Director of Project Engineering is responsible for managing, coaching, tracking, reporting and leading the Project Engineering group supporting new facility construction (Greenfield), client migration (Brownfield) and deployment of technology.  The focus is on implementation activities operated at DSV.  This group will work closely with both Solutions Design (developing and justifying new business), Project Management & Training (Project Management office leading all implementations), and Global Group Real Estate who is responsible for delivering newly constructed facility to the local business. With approved projects, you will also work with operations teams to validate details of the business (space, capital requirements, transition cost, IT solution and cost, staffing requirements, etc.) ahead of transition to new facility and tracks compliance to ensure processes are followed and cost is controlled. 

Successful handoff will be measured internally by senior leadership and externally by DSV clients. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Track all projects and provide communication and guidance to management team
  • Partner with Automations & Integration, IT, Operations, HR and Quality resources with the planning & execution of all projects (as needed)
  • Provide project engineering resources to support all qualified implementations for both new & existing facility or technology deployment
  • Develop, update and manage project management tools in alignment with New Business Implementation team
  • Ensure Implementation Project Scopes are outlined, defined, and follows internal Contract Logistics Project Approach
  • Continuously improving our new facility process through robust lessons learned process
  • Travel to sites and provide operational coverage support on an as needed basis
  • Responsible to develop the team in areas of leadership, skill sets, team unity, and communication
  • Provide oversight and make decisions related to all aspects of the upfit of new site including racking design, slotting requirements, capital purchases, MHE, Upfit cost and miscellaneous items
  • Communicate effectively with team members, operations partners and potential vendors
  • Effectively utilize data when analyzing issues and problem solving
  • Provide bi-weekly updates on projects including early awareness of possible problems

 

Other Duties

  • Backup to Sen. Director of Engineering, as needed
  • Conduct performance reviews of direct reports and manage Workday requirements daily
  • Develop yearly budgets for department
  • Experience in 3PL
  • Position may require frequent travel - domestic and international (50 - 75%)

Education and/or Experience

  • Engineering Four-year degree is basic requirement
  • Minimum of 10+ years of job related/relevant experience

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage 1 - Engineer Manager, 1/2 Senior IE Mangers; 8/10 Engineers
  • Providing consistent & regular feedback on performance, via formal semi-annual review sessions
  • Developing & cultivating professional development of the team & individuals

 

Computer Skills:  

  • Microsoft Project, Excel, Vizio, AutoCAD LT, Word & PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of WMS functionality

Language Skills:

  • English (reading, writing, verbal), Spanish a plus
  • Interpersonal communication and language skills (e.g., listening to others, speaking to others, reading, writing).
  • Communication (facilitation skills and very mature communication skills to be able to communicate to all levels in the organization).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred Degreed in Industrial Engineering
  • Experience dealing with end users, vendors and clients
  • Worked within a matrix reporting environment
  • 8+ years implementations experience in 3PL environment
  • Brown and Green field project exposure
  • Six Sigma / Lean Certifications E-commerce experience including starting up small to large volume warehouses
  • Experience in warehouse automation applications (Pick to Light, Automated Sortation, Voice Pick, conveyor design, etc.)

 

Certificates & Licenses:   PMP is a plus
