We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Transportation Planner to join our Transportation team in our Berlin, NJ or East Brunswick, NJ offices. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional looking to contribute to a wide range of transportation planning and traffic engineering projects throughout New Jersey and the surrounding region.
The Senior Transportation Planner will support transportation planning and traffic engineering projects by preparing traffic impact studies, analyzing transportation systems, and assisting with traffic operations and safety improvements. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional who enjoys working collaboratively, managing multiple assignments, and developing practical solutions for public and private sector clients.
  • Lead technical research and writing, document preparation and publication efforts
  • Lead the preparation of proposals, development of scopes of work and create work hour estimates
  • Assist with traffic impact studies, preliminary traffic analyses, and transportation planning reports.
  • Assist in the development of Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans and traffic signal design, including signing and pavement marking plans.
  • Assist with traffic operations and safety studies to support roadway improvement projects.
  • Attend and assist with public meetings, public hearings, presentations, and client coordination activities.
  • Prepare comprehensive plans, zoning regulations/form-based codes, design guidelines, and other community plans.
  • Complete all aspects of public engagement: presentation materials, community surveys, stakeholder interviews, website setup, and community meetings.
  • Develop transportation planning strategies for communities throughout New Jersey.
  • Conduct environmental review (SEQRA/NEPA), including preparation of Environmental Impact Statements. 
  • Coordinate with engineers, planners, and other project team members to deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting project deadlines.
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Urban/Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field. 
  • Approximately 10+ years of practical experience in transportation planning, including experience in a Project Management/leadership role.
  • Must be a licensed Professional Planner (PP) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey, or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Must be certified by American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
  • Safety Professional (RSP) certification or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is preferred.
  • Experience working on NJDOT and/or New Jersey MPO projects as related to transportation planning.
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical writing, experience in preparing budgets/work plan and proposals. 
  • Experience preparing traffic impact studies and performing traffic modeling and simulation.
  • Experience performing Roadside Safety Audits and Data Driven Safety Analysis
  • Must be accomplished in the management of multiple projects with excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients, project teams, and colleagues internally and externally.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point is required.
  • ESRI ArcGIS software familiarity. Adobe Creative Suite familiarity.
The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. This range reflects the company's good faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
