CareFlite provides critical medical transport services by helicopter and ground ambulance, as well as non-medical transport services.

Job Description
Position Summary
CareFlite is seeking a highly skilled Air Transport Nurse to provide advanced critical care to critically ill or injured patients during air, ground, and specialty transport operations. This role is responsible for assessing patient conditions, performing advanced medical interventions, and ensuring safe, efficient, and timely transport across our service area.
This position is ideal for experienced nurses who thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments and are committed to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced critical care during air, ground, and specialty transport operations
  • Assess patient conditions and perform interventions within CareFlite's scope of practice
  • Collaborate with paramedics, pilots, dispatchers, and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
  • Adhere to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards
  • Demonstrate strong situational awareness in dynamic transport environments
  • Participate in continuous education and quality improvement initiatives

Work Schedule & Environment
  • Schedule: 24 hours on / 72 hours off, including weekends and holidays (365-day operations)
  • Overtime: May be required based on mission demand or emergencies
  • Environment: Aircraft, ground ambulances, ECMO critical care vehicles, hospitals, and outdoor settings
    • Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, confined spaces, and operational hazards
    • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Travel: Frequent travel within assigned service area; occasional overnight stays
  • On-Call: Participation in on-call rotation with required response times
  • Special Requirements: Maintain all required licensure, certifications, and annual competencies

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor's in Nursing preferred)
  • Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in critical care, emergency, or high-acuity nursing
  • Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-stress, fast-paced environments

Required Certifications
  • BCLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Additional certifications (NRP, TPATC or ATLS audit) required prior to completion of orientation

Preferred Qualifications
  • ECMO experience
  • Advanced clinical certifications
  • Previous transport or flight nursing experience

Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment (up to 100 lbs. with assistance)
  • Maximum allowable weight of 230 lbs. in full flight gear
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces
  • Exposure to loud noise, vibration, exhaust, rotating aircraft components, and bodily fluids
  • Must pass background check, drug screen, physical assessment, and audiology testing
  • Must demonstrate emotional resilience, multitasking ability, situational awareness, and composure under high-stress conditions
