This role combines deep technical troubleshooting, financial systems expertise, production support engineering, systems integration, and application analysis across complex distributed platforms. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in high-visibility production environments, analyzing trade and data flows end-to-end, troubleshooting live issues under pressure, and partnering directly with traders, operations, portfolio managers, vendors, and engineering teams.
This is a senior-level hands-on engineering role focused on supporting and optimizing complex trading technology platforms across front-office and middle-office environments. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of trading workflows and financial systems, and the ability to troubleshoot issues spanning applications, APIs, databases, FIX connectivity, vendor feeds, and distributed infrastructure components.
Work Mode
We are made up of high-performing teams that meet in person to collaborate, solve problems, and innovate together. This role is hybrid, requiring 2 days per week in our Newark office, with flexibility to work remotely the remaining days.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced production support for trading, OMS, EMS, portfolio management, security master, and market data platforms.
  • Perform deep analysis of the full trade lifecycle including order creation, execution, allocation, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, and downstream reporting workflows.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across applications, databases, APIs, FIX sessions, middleware, and vendor integrations.
  • Develop a strong understanding of where trade breaks, reconciliation failures, booking issues, or data mismatches can occur across the trading ecosystem and perform root cause analysis across upstream and downstream systems.
  • Use MS SQL for complex querying, reconciliation, data validation, and issue diagnostics across large financial datasets.
  • Analyze and interpret FIX protocol message flows including order routing, execution reports, allocations, drop copy sessions, and trade state transitions.
  • Support and maintain integrations involving REST/SOAP APIs, message queues, batch processing, SFTP workflows, and real-time market data feeds.
  • Trace end-to-end data lineage from vendor market data feeds through normalization, mapping, security master ingestion, portfolio consumption, and downstream reporting.
  • Work closely with market data vendors including Bloomberg, ICE Data Services (IDC), and other pricing/reference data providers to validate and troubleshoot data quality issues.
  • Review and analyze application code to understand business logic, troubleshoot defects, and support platform enhancements.
  • Develop automation tools, monitoring utilities, scripts, and AI-assisted operational workflows to improve platform stability and support efficiency.
  • Participate in release management, regression testing, deployment validation, and platform optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, support, and business teams to resolve high-priority incidents and improve system resiliency.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point within the trading technology organization for complex technical and production issues.

Required Experience & Technical Skills
  • 5-7+ years of experience in financial technology, capital markets, trading systems, or enterprise application engineering environments.
  • Strong experience supporting trading platforms, OMS/EMS systems, portfolio management systems, or market data applications.
  • Advanced MS SQL skills including complex joins, stored procedures, query optimization, data reconciliation, and production data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts and hands-on experience reading, analyzing, and understanding application code.
  • Proficiency working with and troubleshooting codebases developed in one or more of the following:
    • C#
    • VB.NET
    • Java
    • Python
  • Experience troubleshooting enterprise production systems in high-availability, real-time financial environments.
  • Strong understanding of the complete trading lifecycle across front-office, middle-office, and back-office workflows.
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments and asset classes including equities, fixed income, FX, derivatives, and structured products.
  • Solid understanding of FIX protocol, order/execution message structures, and electronic trading workflows.
  • Experience identifying and troubleshooting trade breaks, failed allocations, reconciliation discrepancies, settlement issues, and cross-system data inconsistencies.
  • Experience with security master platforms, pricing feeds, reference data models, and trade lifecycle processing.
  • Experience supporting vendor platforms and market data providers such as Bloomberg, ICE Data Services (IDC), Refinitiv, or similar.
  • Understanding of vendor mnemonics, symbology mapping, pricing validation, and reference data management.
  • Familiarity with APIs, microservices architectures, middleware, messaging systems, and distributed application environments.
  • Familiarity with Tableau, dashboarding platforms, or visual analytics tools for operational analysis, reporting, and data investigation is a plus.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies, automation frameworks, observability tooling, or infrastructure monitoring platforms is a plus.
  • Experience leveraging AI/ML tools or automation frameworks for anomaly detection, intelligent monitoring, operational workflows, or support optimization preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to operate effectively in high-pressure production environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact directly with traders, portfolio managers, operations teams, vendors, and senior stakeholders.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with electronic trading platforms and buy-side trading environments.
  • Exposure to market connectivity, exchange protocols, and low-latency systems.
